unclemike (368), Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA Jul 11, 2008 Bottle. Somewhat uninspiring. Nice dark brown color with a medium tan head. Aroma is a little thin - some maltiness, but not much else. Flavor is much the same, with an oddly sour presence. Not a bad drink, but nothing exceptional.
tarheels86 (38), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Sep 4, 2008 Bottle. This is was nice surprise and in my opinion is highly underrated. Pours with almost no carbonation and a very small, temporary head. Aroma is the closest thing to a chocolate milkshake I have ever encountered. Color is that of Coke and tastes a little like chocolate-flavored Coke. Body is creamy but not too strong. Little tart, dry aftertaste that is not too unpleasant. Compared to say the Duck-Rabbit Brown Ale this is a little watery and sweet. carl4beer (286), Fairfax Station, Virginia, USA Aug 26, 2008 12 oz. pours dark brown with small white head. aroma is nutty with some caramel. mouthful is a little creamy with zip of a cola, i bit tart, then there is a some mellow nut flavors that finnish. the tang distracts from the mellow malt and nut potential. nearbeer (1317), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Aug 6, 2008 12 oz, bottled May 08. Uncloudy mahogany with a small lasting head and a tat of lace. Mild aroma of cocoa and maybe some walnut. Similarly mild taste with molasses, cocoa, walnut, light coffee and a hint of sour cream and/or berry acidity. Almost-medium body is smooth and lightly carbonated, slightly watery and chalky. MaltOMeal (319), Land of Sugar, Texas, USA Jul 22, 2008 12oz bottle thanks to emacgee. pours a dark brown with a light brown head which dissipated quickly. nose is nutty and malt, but not impressive. Taste is of nuts and malt as well. Mouthfeel is thin and watery with carbonation. OK but nothing special. pint_size (1004), Austin, Texas, USA Jul 18, 2008 7-1-08 bottle shared with lb4lb thanks to emacgee
Dark red brown with a thin lasting beige head. Smell is thin berries and malt. Just too much generic sweetness for me. Flavor is sweet and too bubbly. Overall, seems like brown soda water with a strange generic sweetness.
