illinismitty (1790), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Aug 30, 2009 Bottle at Springslicker’s Fish Fry. Pours dark brown with a brown head. Aroma of raspberry and chocolate cake. Lighter side of medium bodied. Flavor of dark roasted malts and raspberry, but over attenuated in my opinion. More raspberry on the finish, which is also slightly acidic. I would prefer more body and sweetness. Elwood (654), Leesburg, Virginia, USA Aug 4, 2009 Serving: 22 oz. bottle
Appearance: Pitch black with a small foamy tan head.
Aroma: Raspberries, roasted malt, earth, and a little smoke.
Taste: Tart raspberries, roasted malt, some smoke. Very refreshing.
Palate: Medium-high carbonation with a medium-light mouthfeel. Medium-short finish.
Overall: Different. Reminds me of a toned down and slightly different version of Bell’s Cherry Stout.
bconley (351), Fern Park, Florida, USA Jul 28, 2009 Thanks to dchmela at otakuden’s throwdown. Black body and thick tan head. Very bold malty smell and mixed with dark fruits. Very roasty and spicy. very pleasant. smith4498 (820), Miami, Florida, USA Jul 22, 2009 Bottle shared by dchmela @ otakuden’s Vero Beach Throwdown. Pours black with tan head. Big raspberry aroma with some roasted malts. Roasted malt flavor with a light touch of raspberries that is not overpowering. It’s fruity with sligh tartness. Medium body with moderate carbonation. hopscotch (5437), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Jul 2, 2009 Bottle... O’sS&BS-I-T-YVBThrowdown... Pours black with a creamy, light brown head. Good retention. The nose is dominated by charcoal, black coffee and cocoa with an unfortunate touch of acetaldehyde. Medium to full-bodied with soft carbonation. The flavor is tart, tangy and fruity with a dab of chocolate thrown in the mash for good measure. Finishes tart and lightly bitter. Kudos to dchmela for bringing this bottle to the Throwdown! biznizness (930), Mooresville, North Carolina, USA Jun 18, 2009 I guess I missed the boat on this one, oooh yeah. Decently delectable and delicious ale, yeah, however not exactly what I’m calling top of the heap, yeah. Still, one of the better Big Boss offerings. DIG IT. Shag (1922), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA Jun 13, 2009 This beer had a black apperance with a tan head. The aroma contains some chocolate, raspberries, coffee, and a hint of smoke. The flavor does not contain a blast of rasperries but they are there. I also taste some coffee, chocolate, and caramel. Overall pretty good but nothing amazing. Ibrew2or3 (2714), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Jun 13, 2009 Courtesy of markwise. Pours deep dark with cherry red hues and lasting thin mocha head The aroma is malty with malt balls, chocolate, some roastiness and a modest level of cherry fruit sweetness and tartness. The taste is much different starting with an initial pulse of malt and caramel sweetness followed quickly by cherry and berry tartness. The flavor only has hints of the maltiness noted in the nose. It ends with lingering cherry tartness and fading sweetness.
