hazy dark caramel, wispy beige head, streaks of lace, sweet dark caramel malt aroma with light citrus and a touch of sweet pine, body starts a bit thin but becomes thick and sticky, caramel malt flavor, sweetness is well balanced with light citrus hop flavor and a long bitter finish, hop flavor keeps getting stronger and picks up some piney sweetness, keeps getting better and better as you drink it

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Apr 29, 2007 Draft glass at the brewery; orange-red and extremely still. This lacks any real aroma. Lots of whopping bite to this one. Strong alcoholic burn with a burnt caramel twist. (#2821, 4/27/2007) Suttree (2739), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

Nice stuff, a nice mix of sweet and bitter, on a smooth, almost creamy palate. thoroughly enjoyable, and the server was really cute too. Can I use that as criteria to bump up the "appearance" score? ucusty (1900), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 12, 2007 On tap at the speakeasy in carrboro. Poured a clear dark amber with a sudsy white head. Nose was dirty, earthy, citrus hops. Flavor is sweet with caramel malts with a lot of bitter hops in the finish. Alcohol pretty well hidden. This is pretty good, but it could be much better. In any case, big boss is putting out some nice beers and i appreciate it.
