Bottle. Orange pour with a off whit head. Aroma of some citrus, grass, and light malt. The flavor had some bitter hoppiness coupled with some really light sweet malt. Sorta light body, a bit watery at times with a nice bitterness in the finish. Not bad, but nothing memorable.

12oz bottle acquired in trade with OldGrowth (thanks!). Poured a medium and slightly hazy amber color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of caramel, pine, and a little on the fruity side. Tastes of citrus, bready, caramel, and light pine. Semi-sweet with a lighter bitter finish. Thin body.

(Bottle) Pours a transparent burnt orange body with an undersized white head. Bouquet of flora, pine, and breadiness. Significant hoppy flavor with a bitter finish.

Bottle. Pours a very hazy light copper with a nice, level white head. The aroma is quite grassy and grainy with a bit of grapefruit, lemon, and caramel. Big Boss has a medium mouthfeel and is quite drying. The hops mainly resemble grapefruit, but leave a semi-astrigent, barely chalky taste in the mouth. It’s not so coarse that it ruins the beer, it’s still quite good. Some sweet sappy notes are apparent to which balances everything out pretty well. This is a very faithful rendition of the style. I’m glad that I didn’t let the name or the intimidating picture of the cigar-smoking gorilla get my hopes up for something ruinous to my palate. This is just a solid session drinking brew.

Pours out a deep golden yeloow color with a medium white head. Aroma has notes of citrus and a good dose of hops. Flavor is grassy and hoppy and a grapefruit finish. Over all not a bad brew at all.

Aroma is a bit like a candied pinecone. Taste is a rather flat bitterness with some musty undertones. Very unimpressive IPA.

From notes 8/12/05: Pours a slightly murky burnt orange. Still. A meager head formed but immediately reduced to just a thin collar of light beige foam. Large loose splotches of lace cling to the glass but eventually slip back down into the liquid. Aromas offer up a buffet of pine, citrus, and oil. Nice scents of grapefruit-drizzled pine cones. A sugary sweet cotton candy air lingers insidiously in the rear. Flavors are big and ballsy with a smack in the face of bitterness. Maltiness is rather subdued at first as the hop bitterness thrashes about. Borderline harsh, but mellows out just enough to enjoy the abuse. Pine oils, crushed pine cone, grapefruit pith batter the palate. The tongue shrivels in delight. Solid mouthfeel. Aftertaste of dry bitterness haunts you. I couldn’t just take a sip...this beer demanded gulps. I must get more. I must.
