Grain and malts on the nose with caramel dominating. Thin bodied. Bread, caramel, and slight spice.. I was expecting a little bit more fruitiness on this, but was still decent nonetheless emacgee (1892), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 20, 2009 10 oz pour from Raleigh Times. Gee, I hope this sample is big enough to get a legitimate rating off of... Anywho, pours a translucent copper with a thin light tan head. The nose is sweet, malty, caramel, mild grainy aspect, some leafy hop aroma. Flavor is sweet and malty, bready/caramel flavors, mild phenol, spicy alcohol, very nice malt feel to this one. Palate is chewy with a mildly sweet malty feel. Tasty. Magjayran (1379), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 19, 2009 Amber brown color with a thin white head. Sweet caramel dominates the aroma. The flavor has caramel, toffee, a hint of raisin, and a bit of alcohol. Maybe not as thick as I would like it to be but a decent draft offering. wilkie (1193), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 15, 2009 Draught at Horniblows Tavern. Pours amber, brown, with a medium off-white head, some lacing. Aroma is caramel, some toasty malts, very sweet. Flavor similar, lots of caramel, sticky, delicious beer. Pretty much a traditional offering. JCB (1799), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 5, 2009 On tap at Watts Grocery, Durham. Nice amber pour with not much carbonation. Pleasingly sweet malt aroma, but not overpowering. The body is somewhat too thin, but that’s perhaps not a bad thing considering that the taste is much sweeter than the nose. Faint smoke and nuttiness in the finish. Decent doppel.
