| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Sep 16, 2009 Bottle from Cindirene’s. Pours dark copper with fast-dissipating off-white head. Nose was malty, with brown sugar, hops, and tart fruit notes. The taste was malty, with hopcitrus, brown sugar, and a tart fruit flavor that got very lactic with the repour and stayed throughout the rest of the beer and all the way down the throat. At 6 months old, this one may have become infected, and I will make every effort to try it again. As it was, I drain poured about the final 1/4 of the bottle. ucusty (1892), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 22, 2009 Dark amber pour with a thick off white head and drippy lace. Grain and malts on the nose with caramel dominating. Thin bodied. Bread, caramel, and slight spice.. I was expecting a little bit more fruitiness on this, but was still decent nonetheless emacgee (1888), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA

Gee, I hope this sample is big enough to get a legitimate rating off of... Anywho, pours a translucent copper with a thin light tan head. The nose is sweet, malty, caramel, mild grainy aspect, some leafy hop aroma. Flavor is sweet and malty, bready/caramel flavors, mild phenol, spicy alcohol, very nice malt feel to this one. Palate is chewy with a mildly sweet malty feel. Tasty. nearbeer (1834), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jul 4, 2009 Bomber. Clear darkish copper with a 4-finger creamy head that finally settles to a lasting half-inch. Aroma is sharp soured grain, some bread and grass. Flavor is the same with some caramel and toasted nut. Medium body is smooth and dry. Soured a bit from infection but still decent. JCB (1768), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 5, 2009 On tap at Watts Grocery, Durham. Nice amber pour with not much carbonation. Pleasingly sweet malt aroma, but not overpowering. The body is somewhat too thin, but that’s perhaps not a bad thing considering that the taste is much sweeter than the nose. Faint smoke and nuttiness in the finish. Decent doppel. NachlamSie (1642), Tennessee, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 16, 2009 Bomber from City Beverage. First of all, the rating is horsecrap. I do not usually like doppelbocks, but this one stands above most of its bretheren. It pours ruby red, kind of see-through, with a good white head. The aroma is very toasty with hints of banana and berries. I cannot emphasize the toast enough. The palate is slick and quaffable. the flavor does not live up to the supremely toasty aroma, but is still good. Notes of banana, vanilla, berries, and bread are present. This is a slight departure from the usual formula, but is welcome. It is not vegetal, it is very well balanced, smooth, and masks the alcohol deftly. I don’t see the problem here. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 19, 2009 Amber brown color with a thin white head. Sweet caramel dominates the aroma. The flavor has caramel, toffee, a hint of raisin, and a bit of alcohol. Maybe not as thick as I would like it to be but a decent draft offering.
