Suttree (2265), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Apr 28, 2008 Cloudy orange, decent white head. Spicy and very fruity aroma - cherry and blueberry and maybe some coriander. Flavor is notes of clove, white wine, some banana and pineapple and perhaps some herbal, oregan-ish notes. At the Raleigh WBF.
Veeve (312), Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA Jun 14, 2008 This was one of the worst beers I’ve ever head. On tap at Village Draft House in Raleigh, NC. My friend Jen ordered but I couldn’t resist due to the funny name. It tasted like dirty alcoholic soapwater. It looked normal, but taste normal it did not. my friend Jen could barely bring herself to finish it. "I surrender monkey" was said many times as we surrendered to its awfulness and couldn’t proceed to drink anymore. Now, thinking about maybe something was up with the tap or we were given a dirty glass but do not surrender and order this beer. try another. This one was terribly disappointing -- Farmhouse ales are generally my favorite overall style.
I’m not sure what they were going for, but in my opinion it just didn’t work. Disjointed and lacking depth. Immy (1477), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Oct 30, 2007 On tap at Tyler’s, Durham, NC. Dark, hazy amber with no head. Mild, wheaty nose, some banana. Wheaty flavor, lightly toasty, a touch of funkiness. Grows a bit more saison-like as it warms, with some spicy clove emerging. Odd, but a nice beer. General_Gao (2357), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Oct 25, 2007 Draft at 42nd St Oyster Bar in Raleigh, NC. Poured a clear dark orange brown color. Darker than I had anticipated. Head was thin and off white. Aroma was of subdued clove and alcohol. There was also an occasional whiff stale beer, akin to what the last few drops in the bottom of a bottle smell like after a day or two at room temperature. Dry on the tongue. Flavor was clove/spice dominated with easily perceived alcohol and a bit of banana. There was also a pleasant dash of brown sugar at the end which asserted itself more as the beer warmed. Plenty of alcohol and clove survived well into the finish. Pretty good.
