Solid beige head. Sweet roasty aroma. Not unlike a roasty Stout or Porter, very smooth and rich chocolate tones. Soft on the palate, but still full bodied. Some mild dark fruit flavors in the aftertaste, giving it a slight Belgian edge. A cool beer, exceeding my expectations.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 12, 2009 I like dark ales and this was okay local effort. the 7.5 is not hidden. High acidity. A bit chalky and after taste is poor. esjaygee (1578), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Nov 17, 2009 Clear reddish brown, medium tan head slowly dissipating. Aroma of toasted malt, nuts, coffee and mixed grains. Taste of caramel, mild coffee, roasted sweet malt with a bit of a cola finish in both taste and acidity. Diablo made me think Dubbel or at least Belgian, but this one missed the mark by a bunch. Skyview (4076), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 8, 2009 Picked up a single 12-oz bottle from Flanagans in Appleton, Wisconsin. Pours a dark amber brown colored brew with a thin beige head that quickly dissipates to a thin ring. Aroma of roasted dark malt, some chocolate, banana esters, yeast and some coffee. Taste is medium bodied, with flavors of chocolate, coffee, a hint of yeast and some toffee. Finish is semi-sweet with a chocolate, dark pitted fruit and yeast aftertaste. Surprisingly this bottle survived some long shelf life at Flanagans and is still easy drinking. mbgrayson (149), Anaconda, Montana, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 31, 2009 Pours a dark brown, with a quickly dissipating tan head. Has a touch of the traditional Belgian flavors, but a little smoother, sweeter, and less biting. All in all, a thumbs up. phishpond417 (1953), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Jun 29, 2009 Pours a dark but clear mahogany with an initial thin tan coloured head that fades into just a thin ring around the top. Aroma has a little bit of burned coffee notes, and heavily roasted malts. A very rich beer, distinct dark chocolate and black licorice flavours. At over 7% this beer definately packs a bit of a punch. pj1855 (157), Eagan, Minnesota, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Feb 7, 2009 Poured a dark reddish brown. Not much flavor in this one. Maybe a little coffee.
Would never have put this in the category of a Belgian Strong Ale. You’d be way better off with a Rochefort 8 or the Struisse Pannepot. This is not even close to being in thier league. tedovertu (260), Apple Valley, Minnesota, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 4, 2009 A Belgian strong ale I think not. Carmel and dark chocolate notes. Pretty bland for this type. Many other better choices available. Flat and water for a Belgian Strong.
