Arnie (272), Chicagoland, IL, Illinois, USA Jul 30, 2007 On tap in a very well-priced sampler. Mild malty nose. Dark copper-opaque brown color. Thick in mouth with some cold cocoa and smokey flavor. gws57 (988), Saint Charles, Illinois, USA Jul 6, 2007 Had this one at the brewpub in Schaumburg, Illinois, marketted as "Brewnette Bombshell." Cloudy brown pour with a filmy head, sweet malts and fruit, plum and raisin with a lot of interesting smokiness. Very good. Zeswaft (1000), Seattle, Washington, USA Feb 11, 2006 I definitely have to question the designation of this beer as a "brown ale". IMO, this has nothing to do with a brown ale, nor is it brown in color. It is black with no head. Its smell is muted with a little roasted malt. It’s flavor is a bit watered down but with some obvious notes of chocolate, smoke, and a little licorice. Altogether I deem this a week stout. Also, Brunette was how it was spelled at the Schaumburg RAM. All in all, it’s a mediocre beer. Reminded me of a Guinness, an awkward Guinness. It made me really mad that when I asked the waitress to describe it she only did so by color and ballparking it between two other beers. Cornfield (4255), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Apr 27, 2005 Updated: Jul 4, 2005Growler from frankenkitty: This poured fairly dark like more of the American browns seem to be doing lately. Held to the light, it displays reddish highlights. It’s very lightly carbonated and briefly held a wispy white head. The aroma is lightly roasted malt with a trace of hop bitterness. The flavor is both roasted and sweet with some dark fruitiness. The finish is almost chocolate in its sweetness. This drank almost like a porter.

frankenkitty (1789), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA Apr 24, 2005 A seasonal in the Chicagoland area, this beer is close to porter in style. Medium brown with honey-red highlights and a fully dissipating head. Lightly hopped, bocky aroma. Malted flavor is cloying at first, but the sugars stabilize and reveal a fruity, grape persona. Not bad if you’re looking to bridge the gap between RAM’s ale and porter.
