11026 (1886), USA Oct 28, 2007 Tap. This has sat in the keg since last Feb./March and has aged pleasantly. A nice coppery brown color, clear, smallish white head. Sweetish toffee and caramel aroma. Medium bodied. A bit of bitterness comes through in the finish which is a bit out of place. I’m not really sure where this is coming from, it wasn’t very bitter last winter. Overall, pretty pleasant. TheBeerLover (1008), DC Metro Area, USA Oct 24, 2007 Sampled on draught at the brewpub in Hood RIver, OR. This beer is an excellent example of Old Ale/English Strong Ale. This beer pours to a deep amber to caramel color, with a thick, creamy, tan head, and a moderate carbonation. The nose on this beer is very sweet, and malty with big aromas of toffee, caramel, and peppery alcohol. The palate is firm, with good sweet malt, caramel, and toffee flavors, paired with peppery alcohol. This beer finishes with more good sweet malt and toffee flavors up front, then ends with a very peppery, high octane burn that warms as it goes down and lights a fire in the belly. This beer is very malty in aroma and flavor, and has lots alcohol. You really can smell, taste, and feel the strength of this beer, like a good whiskey. Sip and savor this one. harlequinn (2746), Tacoma, Washington, USA Feb 27, 2006 A pleasant sweet aroma, like caramlized dark brown sugar. Rich and malty with a somewhat winey flavor, smooth creamy mouthfeel, with some chocolate and caramel. Decent, very drinkable.
