A standard pour into my 25cl tulip glass produces a fat-two-finger thick, tanned head. The beer is a murky amber color that shows quite a bit of haze (this despite a month long rest in the fridge), and an amber tinged, copper highlighted color when held up to the light. The aroma has a sweet fruitiness to it that reminds me of a combination of pear, honeydew melon, ripe plums and a berry / raisin note. This has a backdrop of malt character that adds caramelized notes as well as a solid biscuit like note. A musty, earthy note plays a secondary role here. Coming back to the nose after a bit has me noticeing an interesting kiwi note as well as other tart fruit aromas.

The taste is fruity up front, but quickly picks up a nice lactic tartness through the finish. A fizzy carbonation provides an effervescent prickle as it roles across the tongue, which helps to lighten the body up. This beer is pretty dry, but has more body to it than the dryness will suggest. The beer has a tannic, spicy oak like character to it in the finish (though I wouldn’t necessarily say this was actually aged with oak). The fruitiness and tartness combines to suggest flavors of sour plums, berries and lots of tamarind like flavors. The finish has a touch of acetic character to it that helps to spice things up a bit.

This is quite nice, I forgot that this was a sour beer; so I was expecting a Saison’ish thing; and am pleasantly surprised by the Flemish Sour like beer that ended up in my glass. The beer is perhaps a touch too fizzy from the ample carbonation, but this is easily remedied by some aggressive swirling. This is a very nice beer that I am quite happy to be drinking.

In short: A weird dry musty sour ale. Strangely drinkable.
How: Bottle 22oz. Consumed fresh about 3 months after its release. Mini-tasting session with some of the Montreal crew. Sent to me by dmschefke, thanks a lot Dave.
The look: Cloudy dirty orange topped by a beige ring of foam
In long: The nose is musty, stinky feet and with fruity notes of cranberries. Taste is grainy dry malts (like crusty dry bread crust), berries, cherries, medium sourness, medium acidity. Body is lean with a fizzy soda-poop carbonation. Very dry finish. Gets a few points for me for being highly drinkable. I liked it. I see here that the base beer is a doppelbock. A doppelbock?!?!?!?! Well, I guess any beer can be turned into a sour ale when you want to just like any closet can be a walk-in closet if you try hard enough.

22 oz bottle-pours an off white head and hazy amber color. Aroma is vinegar/tart fruit. Taste is lively vinegar/tart fruit, light/medium malt. Lots of effervescence. Thanks Trevor for sharing.

Opened this to share with my pops thinking it was a saison or something similar. My dad took one sip, said "ick, this is one of your special beers" and I immediately knew what he meant. It was sour. Pretty muddled throughout. Just messy. Oak, lactic acid, some cherry flavor present. A decent attempt at a sour ale

My Bottom Line:
Cranberries and cherries ride the subtle funkiness and effervescent bubbling of this otherwise dry and tart creation.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam tops the cloudy russet.
-A soured Doppelbock, eh? Sure sounds like a botched batch that was salvaged into something drinkable.
-The finish is citrusy and tart, making this very drinkable.
-The body is obviously svelte, the dextrins being almost entirely eaten up.
-A light dustiness is perceived throughout.

Bottle.

Well balanced. Aroma of fruit, tartness, sweetness, grain and wood. Flavor is sour, smooth, fruity, complex for a sour. Some candied fruit and grain. A bit of barrel and acidity. Nice.

Hazy brown color with a small, off white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus, wood, vinegar, tart cherries, and nuts. Taste of wood, tart cherries, bread, citrus fruits, caramel, acidic, and a sour finish.

Very nice brew. Amber color. Aroma reminds me a but if a rodenbach style beer. Some fruit, wet wood, vinegar. Flavor is sour with a hint of woody sweetness. This is a good beer. Very good.

Poured a hazy amber-reddish color with a decent intiial head with low retention. The aroma was like a Flemish Brune, tart cherries, sweet bread. Flavor followed with the tart cherries, sweet bread, acetic character, grapes, and wild/funk notes also present, but subtle. Not mouth puckering, but with some acidity, generally light body with some underleveraged depth of flavor (slightly watery) and body. Thanks, sloth!
