DuffMan (2721), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada Sep 6, 2006 Still some bottles of this kicking around I guess! Although I’m not sure how old this actually is. Dark amber brown with spicy sweet notes that are hard to pin down. Slightly sweet flavours of caramel, brown sugar, and an estery wheat-like note, and again the sweet spiciness that’s hard to pin down (different from a weizen, that’s for sure). I’m sad that this one has been retired! I even have a perma-plaqued poster of this beer from my university days. JAF737300 (791), Tampa, Florida, USA Apr 13, 2006 The Magpie has a lot going on, very complex for a beer. It is full and copper and has good notes of spice to it and a decent finish. bu11zeye (5430), Frisco, Texas, USA May 20, 2005 (Bottle) Pours a clear amber body with a spare white head. Aroma of buble gum, rye hops, licorice, and maple syrup. Spicy rye hops flavor with some caramel. dirkules (613), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 21, 2004 This one ranks certainly among the better Big Rock brews, with a straight amber colour and a malted flavour to match. Quite tasty. Crit (2399), New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada Dec 12, 2002 Hazy deep gold color with fast fading head. Yeasty rye flavor. Slightly more body than a wheat JPDIPSO (4865), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Apr 15, 2002 Nice light amber color with a moderate head. Malt sweetness from the rye really comes through along with the slipper feel. Indra (2023), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Feb 25, 2002 Why oh why did they stop shipping Big Rock beers to K.C. I loved this one! It was almost a staple, in fact.
