Poured clear light copper with a decent foamy off-white head. Yeasty, slightly vegetal aroma, lightly juicy and roasty, detectable alcohol too. Tasted of orange juice malt, alcohol, and lightly floral hops - not vegetal, at least - ehh. Slightly watery mouthfeel, bland, with a quick finish. An Irish Ale? Really? It didn’t really seem like much of anything. Just okay. DuffMan (2774), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada

Creamy malty palate, smooth mouthfeel. A nice strong ale. I recently had this fresh from the source and it was like tasting it again for the very first time-- even better than I remembered. oldrtybastrd (1846), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 29, 2005 Nice frothy head with a light amber color. Inviting aroma strongly rooted in malts but if found some floral hints. Great flavor to offset the high ABV. I didn’t get the "buttery" aspect of this beer as per the commercial description as I found it to be more of a sour hop flavor and an earthy finish. One of my favorate big rock offerings. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 6, 2005 From the bottle: Pours an light copper with a thin bubbly head.
Caramel, toffee. toasty malt, with stronger hoppy floral tones than B.R. Trad. (though aroma is similar). Fruity sweetness in the start with lively carbonation. Middle gets a bit more sour with a medium woody hop finish. HazelRah (276), Summerland, British Columbia, Canada

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 30, 2005 Bottle. Amber color with a small white head. Nice aroma of caramel, malt and butter. Flavor was pretty much the same as the aroma, only a bit more subdued. This beer was a nice surprise. rbloodworth (15), Canada
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Mar 13, 2005 While the Australian populace might enjoy this beer on excursions to Canada...I do not. this is way too hard for a 7% beer and I do not enjoy its taste. It is cheap, of course, being a local brew, but Big Rock simply will never be my cup of Aventinus.
