Closest thing to an English beer so far on this trip. Slight yeast, good malt, like a British best bitter on the aroma. Some caramel. Malty fruit in mouth is very pleasant.Hopevidenced on end balances the malt well. I like it. Uncomplicated bitter. LordBeamish (144), Boozetown, Ontario, Canada

Lot’s of malty flavourings with a hint of sweetness. A perfect autumn beer. Nice dark amber colour with white head. Very tasty. I actually pounded this one back almost too fast to rate it properly. I may have to re-rate soon to give it real justice. KingofCastle (202), London, Ontario, Canada

Very smooth - the hops won’t overwhelm here. Dark copper, thin head. Sweet ale with dark fruit or sugar notes. Not a bitter beer by any stretch. OK for the drinkers frightened by true ales but why would a real ale drinker choose this? Good beer but don’t see the point of this stylle as not many levels of taste here. Mild aroma of fruit with roasted nut overtones. Flavor is reasonable enough, some gentle fruity tones, caramel, very restrained aftertaste. Fairly prickly mouthfeel
Perfectly drinkable and perfectly enjoyable but not necessarily one to seek out again. Ughsmash (4095), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 31, 2006 Bottled. Poured a clear, medium orangey-caramel with a short cap of off-white head... some rising carbonation. Nose was of spicy and nutty malts, caramel, and more dark sweetness... a bit airy and tough to reach. Sticky caramel and nutty malts for the most part in the flavor department... diacetyl notes detracting at the back end... woodsy/herbal hops emerge at the back, too. Carbonation was a tad too high. The sharp diacetyl notes hurt the feel, too... but the middle was smooth. TheJester (741), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada

Fairly sweet taste - brown sugar, maybe. No bitterness unless ice cold. Not much aftertaste. Likeable. Another one I’d like to try on tap. wollenscke (3), Ontario, Canada does not count | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Aug 15, 2006 A personal favourite. Great pub style pint. Sweeter than the average dark ale. CanadaCam (109), Canada
