Commercial Description:
XO Lager is our recipe for a 165 year old pilsner beer style. It has a creamy head and a crisp clean finish. XO's soft delicious balance is accomplished by using Saaz hops from the Czech Republic, one of the most 'noble' hops in the world. The name XO signifies the extra time left to age in our lagering cellars.

Pours a very clear yellow color with a 1/4" head that fads a little fast and beer is of a higher carbonation. Aroma is pretty sweet and has a definitive noble hops character. Flavor is not what I was expecting at all from the aroma. The beer is very light and carries only a slight grainy taste with a light noble hops hint finishing up the tasting. Mouth feel is kinda watery but it could be due to the lack of flavor there to help bolster the beer. Overall, I agree with other reviewers that it’s not offensive but there really isn’t much there that could offend anyone, besides clean water.

I don’t understand why this beer has such a low rating. It’s like all the good of a domestic cheap pil with NONE of the bad. I truly deeply enjoy this beer any day of the week whatever I’m doing. It’s approachable and easy and inoffensive and just plain great. I love Big Rock and I love XO. Anyway, it’s a pale lager and it’s very bready tasting with no bitterness whatsoever. Moreover, this beer out of all beers is the best to drink if you’re legitimately thirsty. Refreshing and delicious. Good job Calgary.

A nice foamy head , I like that. Has a commercial taste but I must say it is a tasty commercial pils flavor. Yum. It is not wowing me but so far im impressed with the 2 types of big rock ive had. I think big rock has something going on

For a so called "premium" lager, I found it to be lacking in innovation. This is just another averaga ho-hum beer.

[811-20071104] Bottle (w/ jerc). Yeasty sea aroma qualities. Clear, pale yellow body with a very quick bubbly white head. Grainy mild flavour has a bit of yeasty alcohol. Light-medium body. Not interesting.

341ml brown bottle. Pale gold in colour, holds a small white cap and leaves some ok lacing. Aroma is sweet grain. Flavour is sweet bready malt/grains. Some herbal hops in finish with some corny malt. Medium level of carbonation, light body.

Bottle shared with Mabel. Crisp pale yellow body with a small fluffy white head. Mild grassy hops aroma. Flavour has a mild bitterness throughout with light grassy and floral notes. Average palate. Meh. I did not think this was nearly as bad as everyone else, perhaps it was just cold enough, or I was thirsty enough to look past it, who knows
