Commercial Description:
XO Lager is our recipe for a 165 year old pilsner beer style. It has a creamy head and a crisp clean finish. XO's soft delicious balance is accomplished by using Saaz hops from the Czech Republic, one of the most 'noble' hops in the world. The name XO signifies the extra time left to age in our lagering cellars.

I don’t understand why this beer has such a low rating. It’s like all the good of a domestic cheap pil with NONE of the bad. I truly deeply enjoy this beer any day of the week whatever I’m doing. It’s approachable and easy and inoffensive and just plain great. I love Big Rock and I love XO. Anyway, it’s a pale lager and it’s very bready tasting with no bitterness whatsoever. Moreover, this beer out of all beers is the best to drink if you’re legitimately thirsty. Refreshing and delicious. Good job Calgary.

33 cl bottle, Fargo, ND, USA via Winnipeg. Medium gold colour, cereal and honey aroma. Sweet taste with a noticeable pepperiness and a dry finish.

"Brew looks crystal clear and very light gold, minimal cap that did leave behind some lacing. Aroma had a smooth sourness to it and the typical apple from the Czech style hops. Taste hit the style right on, they proclaim this to be a Czech style pilsner and they got it, dark but light tasting malt, apple style hops, and a sweet bready finish. Brew is very drinkable but there are so many other beers I’d rather drink."

Bottle. 5%. Clear golden pour with a...nothing. absolutely no head. I have had apple juice with more foam. Aroma is fruity hops, sweet malts and grains. Taste is more of the same, cool, crisp and refreshing. Don’t judge a book by its cover, this beer is very tasty.

Sometimes I find a lager or pilsener hard to rate. There is a fine line sometimes between success and failure. Sometimes intimidating to put the first rating in. Gold. Fair carbonation. 1/3 inch head does not last very long. Light bubbles maintained on the edge and middle. Light aroma with notes of grass, bread and sweet cookie. Noticeable up front hops. Sweet malt and finish. A light pilsener. Not going to set the world on fire. More mainstream than craft. Just can’t work up an excitement for it.

Bottle shared with Mabel. Crisp pale yellow body with a small fluffy white head. Mild grassy hops aroma. Flavour has a mild bitterness throughout with light grassy and floral notes. Average palate. Meh. I did not think this was nearly as bad as everyone else, perhaps it was just cold enough, or I was thirsty enough to look past it, who knows
