jjpm74 (2722), Connecticut, USA May 9, 2008 750ml bottle courtesy of Jonpol. Pours amber/copper with a thin sparse off white foam. Smells of sugar, some tarte cherries, dark fruit, some earthy character. Tastes nutty with some tartness and lots of sweet malt. No alcohol burn to speak of. This could use some more balance, but its otherwise an enjoyable beer.
ChainGangGuy (1444), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Jul 15, 2008 Appearance: Pours a soiled, murky brown body with a few stray bubbles but nothing I’d dare call a "head".
Smell: Tart fruity aroma with a dusting of cocoa powder and cinnamon.
Taste: Begins with a tart cherry and plum fruitiness with a good ladle full of sweet syrup. Only a vague dark maltiness in the background. Not much in the way of hops or bitterness here, either. Pinch of cocoa, cinnamon, and maybe even nutmeg tossed in. Pop of alcohol on the finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Mild carbonation.
Drinkability: I tried and I tried, but I just didn’t dig this one. Maybe next time! Vac (2175), San Diego, California, USA Jul 6, 2008 Pours with a deep red brown body topped by a thin to medium thick head with a good amount of lacing. It’s slightly sweet and malty with a note of dark fruit, some vanilla/barrel notes and alcohol esters. Full bodied and warming. goldtwins (3672), Nesconset, New York, USA Jun 5, 2008 Poured a hazy amber color with a large beige head. Sweat caramel malt aroma with fruity and earthy notes. Dark fruits and toffee flavor. Medium to full body. mkobes (2014), New York, USA Jun 1, 2008 Bottle. Sampled at Pauls Hoboken Gathering. Deep amber in color with a little off white head. Dark fruity malty aroma. Spicy notes. Malty sweet caramel flavor. Finish is sweet. Full bodied. Decent beer. Drinkable. hophead75 (1620), Boonton, New Jersey, USA May 28, 2008 Sampled at Paul’s Hoboken Gathering. Hazy deep amber in color. Alot of caramel, some sherry- dark fruits in the aroma. Taste is caramel, dark fruits, bready yeast. Full bodied. Thought this was a more of a straight up aged barleywine rather than a quad.
