| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 4, 2009 Bottle from a mix pack sent to me as a birthday present from my sister. Best one of the pack easily. Black in color with a tan head. Roasty coffee and chocolate aroma. Flavor is lots of roast, coffee, caramel, vanilla, and bitter cocoa. Smooth, creamy palate. nbutler11 (769), Phoenix, Arizona, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 21, 2009 Pours black with a brown head. Smells and tastes of baker’s cocoa, coffee, charcoal, and chalk. Very basic, but highly balanced and drinkable. Would drink this reguarly if it were more readily available. ajm (949), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 21, 2009 Bottle shared by nbutler11. This particular bottle was very close in quality to Flying Dog Gonzo. Nose of thick caramel malt, milky chocolate coffee. Flavor is much the same but actual texture is less creamy and good than it smells. Beaver is right in that the bitter, grainy coffee finish interferes with the unity of the beer and makes it taste even thinner. Probably the best beer I have had from Big Sky. | 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Apr 7, 2009 12 oz bottle. Pours a dark brown black with a large creamy brown head that retains well and laces the glass.
The aroma is sweet chocolate malts, some acidic coffee and some smoke. It all washes out quickly other than acidic leather.
The flavor is roasted malts with very acidic coffee and a burnt bitterness at the end. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and la little watery.
Overall, I remember liking previous bottle much more than this. This one seems to have a lot of off notes and is very acidic. Skyview (4076), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 27, 2009 Chased this one down and picked up at Discount Liquors in Milwaukee. Pours an opaque dark brown brew with an average sized beige head that slowly dissipates to a thin creamy head. Aroma of toasted dark malt, some chocolate, roasted nuts and caramel. Taste is medium bodied, floral hops, caramel, chocolate a hint of raisin and a hint of coffee. Finish is s tad watery with a light metallic aftertaste. It’s okay but still a little light for a robust porter. CaryTheDude (1113), Longmont, Colorado, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 25, 2009 Crushed with Jakebra. Excellent nose of chocolate and some roast, but dark chocolate dominates. Roasty flavor isn’t as good, but some nice hop presence in the finish and a nice enough mouthfeel to make this porter quality as aight, borderline sexy. Aubrey (2778), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 16, 2009 Inky blackness with an oily film on the edges. Thinnish head. Light to medium body. Inviting aromatic roast. Elements of dark chocolate, fig, tar, and dark toast. Roasty-grainy flavors really came through. Hint of vanilla followed in the background. Rather tasty porter. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 14, 2009 Near opaque, very dark brown. Tall light brown foam head. Very grainy in scent. Caramel, mild roasted malt and raw cocoa as well. The grainy silage dominates the aroma in the beginning and luckily departs after some time in the glass. Smooth and slightly watery feel. Dry start with the black malt coming out quickly. Light roast and a bit tinny in the finish and linger. A touch to thin in the malt department for my kind of porter. I just don’t get a real deep malt base in this one.
