(12oz bottle, thanks CaptainCougar) Small brown head atop clear red-black body. Aroma is medium sweet, bittersweet chocolate, earthy/herbal. Taste is moderately sweet, coffee, some milk chocolate, light earthy. Sticky medium body, low carbonation.

Bottle sampled on 7/26/09: Pours a mostly opaque black with dark mahogany edges and some light brown wispy head. Aroma of sweet toasty dark caramel malts and some dark chocolate with a hint of raisins. Body starts with good fullness and toasty caramel maltiness with some earthy roasty dark chocolate notes before a drier bittersweet finish. A pretty nice porter.

Near opaque, very dark brown. Tall light brown foam head. Very grainy in scent. Caramel, mild roasted malt and raw cocoa as well. The grainy silage dominates the aroma in the beginning and luckily departs after some time in the glass. Smooth and slightly watery feel. Dry start with the black malt coming out quickly. Light roast and a bit tinny in the finish and linger. A touch to thin in the malt department for my kind of porter. I just don’t get a real deep malt base in this one.

Chased this one down and picked up at Discount Liquors in Milwaukee. Pours an opaque dark brown brew with an average sized beige head that slowly dissipates to a thin creamy head. Aroma of toasted dark malt, some chocolate, roasted nuts and caramel. Taste is medium bodied, floral hops, caramel, chocolate a hint of raisin and a hint of coffee. Finish is s tad watery with a light metallic aftertaste. It’s okay but still a little light for a robust porter.

Bottled. Poured much darker than expected.. about a shade shy of black, with a deep tan head. The aroma picked up well-roasted chocolate, coffee, and molasses with a lovely dose of floral and piney hoppage.. very well balanced and enjoyable. The flavor was led by molasses and coffee maltage, well-roasted, with accents of vanilla and semi-sweet chocolate.. bitterness surrounded in the form of more coffee, pine, and earth.. long, memorable finish, with excellent balance between the components. Medium-plus bodied and well-roasted on the palate.. a little too dry and grainy at times, but that only detracted a little.. great use of hops.. I’d gladly drink this again and again.

Cask. Blackish beer with a tan head. Big coffee and roast aroma. Coffee flavor with roast, rich malt, and caramel. Medium bodied. Caramel lingers with coffee and rich malt. Bit of hops, but the coffee come out strong.

Inky blackness with an oily film on the edges. Thinnish head. Light to medium body. Inviting aromatic roast. Elements of dark chocolate, fig, tar, and dark toast. Roasty-grainy flavors really came through. Hint of vanilla followed in the background. Rather tasty porter.

Bottle from my cousin-in-law Jason. Thanks, man!
Pours jet-black with a thick body and with a nice tea-brown head/lacing. Aroma is semi-sweet smoky malt and cocoa. Flavor is chalky, smoky chocolate with roasted malt tones. Nice and slightly tingly mouthfeel. Enjoyable and very approachable.
