Black body with tan head. Good dose of bourbon, oatmeal and coco on the nose. Flavor was sweet bittering hopssome roasted malt and dry coco mix powder blended together. Sweet fruit presents itself near middle of brew and fisish is some sweet bourbon that lingers on palate. Thanks Rusty JCB (1796), Durham, North Carolina, USA

A really fine pour, thick and dark like sludgy chocolate milk. The cafe au lait head dissipates somewhat quickly, but the nose is pungent and lasting. The bourbon is fairly mild, integrated well with the chocolate and lactic qualities. That holds true for the flavor as well, which is richly satisfying. ucusty (1918), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA

Flavors followed the nose exactly. Smooth roasty malts balanced nicely with vanilla and bourbon. Thick brew. I really liked this one. marcus (1902), Sacramento, California, USA

This dark brown ale poured with a nice brown head that lasted a while. There is a strong treacle and licorice aroma. The flavor matches the aroma in that there is a heavy anise presence and a syrupy malt taste. This is a good brew. Thanks Bill. bhensonb (4374), Woodland, California, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 2, 2009 Bottle from Liquor Max. Very dark brown color with a strong dark tan head. Aromas of treacle, coffee and very toasted malt. Near full bodied with creamy carbonation. Flavor is very strong treacle/coffee/malt and may have some anise. Yes, it does have anise. Finishes in a heavenly manner. The initial heat touch diminishes. Seems rather alcoholic, or at least more than 8.7. Finish is very satisfying. ditmier (1114), Boise, Idaho, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 19, 2009 Very dark with a medium tan head. Mouthfeel is full but not overly chewy. Interesting flavors and aromas from start to finish. Sweetness was pretty bold (perhaps a bit much for my blood). Had some chocolate, syrupy molasses and caramel, but when I thought of coffee-flavored ice cream it really clicked. Aromas of vanilla bean, sweet whiskey, sour wood, and espresso with cream surfaced after each swallow. Warming alcohol soothed the back of the throat. Dark fruit flavors blend into a mild bitterness in the aftertaste. Cozy and complex.
