Commercial Description:
Moose Drool is our Brown Ale. Far and away the best selling beer brewed in Montana, Moose Drool is chocolate brown in color with a creamy texture. Our brown ale is a malty beer with just enough hop presence to keep it from being too sweet. The aroma also mostly comes from the malt with a hint of spiciness being added by the hops. Moose Drool is brewed with pale, caramel, chocolate, and whole black malts; and Kent Goldings, Liberty, and Willamette hops. It has an original gravity of 13 degrees Plato, and is 4.2% alcohol by weight, 5.3% by volume.

(bottle from Platte Ave Liqour in Colorado Springs). Pours a dark brown color. Good clarity. Medium size tan head. Aroma of roasted malt and wood. Roasted malt flavor. Somewhat astringent finish. Good lacing. Moderate carbonation.

Aroma of rye bread and coffee with a hint of wood and spice. Dry astringent character with a gentle chocolate quality. Nice balance between sweet and bitter with a subtle hint of hops. Brown ales tend to be pretty middle of the road but I really like this one. Thanks to Scott A. a home brewer of my acquaintance for recommending this.

12oz. bottle from the home stash and poured into my trusty SA lager glass. Color was walnut brown and sporting a foamy, mid-tan head that reduced to a bubbly layer but left some sheet like, clingy lacing. The aroma was roasted and toasted notes of malt, with some nuttiness and a touch of dark caramel sweetness. The smooth malt was more evident in the flavor and some chocolate notes showed up. Initially, the hop bitterness was low, but it picked up toward the finish. Medium+ body with a pleasant, creamy mouthfeel.

Rediish-brown pour with an off-white head. Sweet nutty aroma. Malty flavor with some sweetness at the end. The taste does not come close to the aroma.

Tasted 4/13/09. 12oz bottle. Filtered with a dark amber hue. Finger width of khaki head. Cocoa and caramel aromas with a toasty note and a faint berry undertone. Medium bodied with cocoa and toasty cereal malts. Solid malt bill. This is a good second step into craft beer! A little bit more malt, but still Smooth and tasty. Very approachable. Tingling effervescence. Balanced, but a slight trend towards the malts. Flavors of cola and toffee. Good and fresh! Not too overt, but well crafted and solid style!

Pours a brown color with a tan head. Aroma is of nuts, slight roasted malts, chocolate, caramel, and molasses. Flavor is similar with a slightly bitter finish that lingers. Overall not too bad.

12oz bottle courtesy of beerbill poured into a pint glass. Pours dark brown in the glass that shows deep copper when held up to light. The head is small and tan and doesn’t leave much in the way of lacing. The aroma is pretty good with tons of sweetness from the caramel malts and chocolate. Maybe some molasses as well as a hint of nuts. The doesn’t quite live up to the aroma and is really just a more watered down version of the smell. It has a bit of chocolate and molasses sweetness up front with some malts int he middle and a dry cocoa-like finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied for the style and smooth with moderate carbonation. This one looks and smells great but the taste and mouthfeel are probably a tad less impressive. Still, a decent brown ale.
