Deep brown appearance with a modest head that releases faint malt and nut aromas. Fairy light on the palate, but taste is excellent with nutty flavor and hints of roasty aftertaste. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 4, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a dark brown with a nice one finger head. Held to a light, it is fairly clear and amber. Excellent malty aroma or chocolate, coffee and nuts. Flavor is more balanced than the aroma, but a bit astringent. Some spice and hops (can’t taste the Goldings) with a touch of weak coffee. Palate isn’t as creamy as I hoped, and finishes a bit dry for my tastes. Overall a good, but not great Brown ale. alexanderj (2279), Chino Hills, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 29, 2008 On tap at Yard House in Brea, I think it is fairly new; color of dark brown (probably a bit daker than most). Aroma of caramel, cocoa and chocolate. Flavor of toasted biscuit, caramel and a touch of slight cocoa. Pretty good for the style. 37steel (186), St. Charles, Illinois, USA

Very brown (fitting for a brown ale no?) with good balance of malt/hops. An easy drinking beer with subtle flavors. Brewsmith (136), Torrance, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 26, 2008 From a 12 oz. bottle purchased locally. Aroma is malty with some earthy hop aroma. Deep reddish brown with a small, tight tan head. Malt flavor is toasty, biscuity and a little roast in there, malty but not overly sweet. There’s plenty of hop bitterness to balance. Easy drinking and finishes dry. Very balanced. A great brown ale. lovemyipas (420), sw burbs, Illinois, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 20, 2008 pours a nice dark caramel brown with red highlights and a one finger fluffy brown head. aroma is fresh lightly toasted caramel malt with a touch of hops and something else i cant put my finger on. has a light to medium body with good lacing and carbonation. flavor is the same as aroma but a bit stronger and has a little bit of pine thrown in. not to bad of a brown, i like a little more hops in a brown, but not bad really fresh tasting. also it is a little light for a brown. this is my 4th and final beer out of the combo 12 pack, i had the ipa before and that is still the best one. i would rank the others as follows: moose drool, trout slayer and then summer honey. the aroma does fall off a bit on this one as it warms. i am putting my finger on a little dry dark chocolate cocoa powder. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 20, 2008 Bottle courtesy of Howie @ the Cock & Bull Pub-thanks! Pours a dark brown with a thin fizzy tan head that diminishes quickly. The pour reminded me more of a cola rather than a beer. Aroma is nutty with hints of spices and chocolate. Flavor is malty and sweet with hints of roasted nuts and raisins mixed in with chocolate and caramel. Is thin on the palate with a creamy dry finish. Very tasty and enjoyable.
