Aroma is of nuts, sweet malts and some hops. Flavor is also very nutty but with a strong hop presence which to me seems a bit too much for the style. ironchefscott (342), portland, Oregon, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 13, 2008 not a bad brownale...darkish brown flavor with a nice sweet roasted malt aroma and it is balanced by a spicy hop flavor....pretty good.... Aquilo (274), California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 12, 2008 Dark hazel with a bubbly head. Smells wheaty and malty. Flavor is tame. I tasted lots of hops on the first taste, and then less as the beer warms, which is strange. Otherwise, the flavor is earthy, with malt and perhaps a hint of molassas. A tad fizzy, but it’s smooth enough for me. Not much going on here, but it’s not a bad beer either. Swalden28 (1512), McKinney, Texas, USA

Pours a brown with ruby tones, ok beige head. Had a very nice aroma of chocolate, Flavor was very pleasing. Chocolate with nice hoppy flavor and bitter. Medium mouth-feel, high carbonation.....Good beer! CaryTheDude (1113), Longmont, Colorado, USA

Nutty and chocolaty aroma with the same plus some caramel in the flavor. Palate packs an extra punch. Just a great combination of flavors. goldbrew (99), USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | May 10, 2008 From bottle. The aroma was rather musty and convoluted. There is a good balance of easy maltiness that doesn’t overpower with the chocolate hints. It just didn’t pop with flavor that pleased the senses. A good beer doesn’t clearly reveal what each ingredient is with each taste, true. Ideally it makes you want to take another sip to discover more. But this was just too much of a murky affair with this one. In fairness, brown ales aren’t my top style choice, but this still didn’t deliver enough for me this time. Gypsy19 (647), California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 9, 2008 Pours dark red/brown with a 1/4 inch head that disappears in seconds. Stronger flavor than most brown ales, but with a little less character. Tasty overall, could be a touch sweeter in my opinion. Satisfying, and great for the style. Recommended for those who like brown ales, definitely. Trev (886), Lakeville, Minnesota, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 8, 2008 pours a dark brown with ruby tones in the light, a thin off white cap fades quickly.
Aromas of chocolate, nutty malt and light hop. Roasty malt body, some choc and nuttiness, light bitterness makes the finish clean and balanced. Very good brown ale.
