Commercial Description:
Moose Drool is our Brown Ale. Far and away the best selling beer brewed in Montana, Moose Drool is chocolate brown in color with a creamy texture. Our brown ale is a malty beer with just enough hop presence to keep it from being too sweet. The aroma also mostly comes from the malt with a hint of spiciness being added by the hops. Moose Drool is brewed with pale, caramel, chocolate, and whole black malts; and Kent Goldings, Liberty, and Willamette hops. It has an original gravity of 13 degrees Plato, and is 4.2% alcohol by weight, 5.3% by volume.

Malt was noticible in taste along with light carmel and chocolate.. Had on tap and have had some bad experiences with tap beers at eateries. This beer tasted watered down and was nothing special at all. I might be guessing that it was due to the tap? Either way, if that was what the beer really tasted like, I would not buy again.

Dark color with a frothy medium sized tan head (though it seems most people experienced a much weaker head). A rich malty aroma. Taste mostly consists of roasty malts with hints of toffee, yet goes down surprisingly smooth with a velvety finish.

(Bottle) Pours a rich brown color with a small sized tan head. Aroma of toffee, caramel and very light hops. Taste includes rich malty notes such as molasses and dark fruits. I caught some vanilla and nut towards the end as well. Very good balance and much better than expected mouthfeel. Very drinkable as well. I was pleasantly surprised by this beer.

Poured dark mahogany wood color with a frothy head the dissipated at a normal level. The head retention was ok with limited laciness. The smell was of a stronger malt with hints of nuts and chocolate aroma. There is a touch of sweetness from a toffee molasses mix for a smooth taste. The hop flavor is limited which is expected. The taste is similar with more of the chocolate malt flavor then nuts. Very much a brown style ale (nut brown), but not what I would consider English. Overall this is a good example of a Nut Brown Ale as it has good flavor, ok body and very easy to drink.

Bottle, pours a nice dark brown with a minimal head, aroma is malty caramel roasty. Flavor is as the aroma goes, with a light-medium mouth feel and hop backup. Good balance, this is the prototypical American Brown ale, very drinkable.

Rating 1086, bottle given to me by my father from when he was on a trip. Brown with barely a head. Nose is lots of malts and caramel with just a hint of dark skinned fruit. Taste just about the same with some metallic character to it. No real hop profile. Pleasant.

June 2006 - This one might have fared differently on a different night. Beer poured with next to no head…actually, no head or lacing. Dark brown, but not opaque. Aroma was caramel, but nuts and sweet fruity aroma emerged as it warmed. The flavor…this wanted to be good...lots of caramel (maybe too much), heavy nuttiness and something sweet (fruit? cherry?). Too sweet. Couple the sweetness with a rather unpleasant mouthfeel, and what could have been a good flavor was ruined. I can’t say it wasn’t carbonated, but it felt flat, watery and thin on the tongue, even though the flavor itself wasn’t all that weak. It kind of reminded me of the last time I had Newcastle...the mouthfeel was so bad it was distracting.

Dark chocolate brown hues followed by a full nouget colored head. Raosted malts and some nutty aromas. Lighter body, maybe a bit too high on the carbonation. Gritty chocolate and soft carmel flavors with a brisk bitter hops finish.
