Malty and sweet to taste, you can definitely taste chocolate. It fades away nicely and leaves me satisfied. Wulfstan (509), California, USA

I finally got around to trying this & decided to compare it to another, similar beer I was already familiar with - Downtown Brown. From the bottle, this is a very dark, almost black, reddish brown with a fairly thick tan head that disspates only slowly and not entiirely, and leaves decent lacing. The aroma is rich malt - caramel, rich wheat bread, sourdough and nuts. The flavour is full, earthy, and sweet, very faintly sour, and with a hint of bitterness. It’s smooth and very tasty, with a full palate. It seems very English in style, like a sweetish cross between a true English brown ale, and an English ESB with a hint of English strong or old ale body and earthiness. antzman (313), Clarksville, Indiana, USA

The aroma is of caramel, sugar, nuts, and malt. The flavor is a bit sweet, but very easy to drink. A little bit of chocholate comes through as well. Medium body. This would be a nice session beer. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 16, 2007 Bottle poured into pint glass. Very dark browne colour with a tan head that settles into a film. Aroma is molasses and caramel. Nice flavour but nothing amazing. Enjoyable pour. MadMan (497), Tempe, Arizona, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 15, 2007 Bottle. Pours a dark brown, thin head. Aroma is sweet and caramelly and nutty. Body is medium with medium carbonation. Flavor is also on the sweet side and malty, with caramel, nuts, and very light hop presence. There may be a hint of roastiness, and chocolate in the form of cocoa powder. Some light acidity as well. Finish is short and malty, lightly bitter. Not a bad brown I guess, it’s drinkable and flavorful without an overly sweet finish. drfabulous (1275), Columbia, Missouri, USA

Small head on nearly opaque black-brown beer. Aroma of molasses and gunmetal. Flavors of molasses, cocoa, and slight metallic-earthy spice. Palate is light-medium, sorta smooth and watery. milljam (584), Norman, Oklahoma, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 8, 2007 Had this beer after a long day of hiking in Yellowstone at some little pizza joint in Gardner, Montana. It certainly quenched my thirst....pour is cloudy medium brown, little density in the white head, which faded quickly. Nose was subtle, very slight on the hops, with some sweet molasses in the front with spice. Taste is roasted nut/caramel malt with some hoppiness in the background...strong finish, although not really bitter, more of a bold statement of the malt and some dryness. Definitely a good beer to have on tap if you are ever in the far north where beer options are limited.
