| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 22, 2009 On tap at Brouwer’s Hard Liver Barley Wine Fest (distinguished from the normal Blue Hair on the tap list). Pours a reddish copper with a small head. Sweet malts dominate, with oak, bourbon, a slight amount of hops... it smells and tastes darker than it is, and there’s far more bourbon in the aroma than in the flavor. Full bodied, and very drinkable. Great - one of my favorites from the festival. jkwalking05 (1485), Arlington, Texas, USA

Pours with a huge, fluffy, light brown head over a hazy golden body. very good retention (on a barely wine? I guess...) Aroma of bourbon barrel, brown sugar, maple and light bitterness. Taste has some light bitterness, caramel, brown sugar, and baking products (I think I meant sweet dough in my notes). Syrupy mouthfeel, light carbonation, warming on the palate.

Smell is caramel sweetness and maybe some vanilla. Taste is extremely (overly) dry and oaky with a tiny bit of caramel and maybe vanilla. No bourbon and there is some metallic tartness. Extremely fizzy mouthfeel. So so.
