| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 10, 2008 Pours reddish brown color that is somewhat dirty; off-white head is quick to retreat. I can’t find a whole lot to comment on with the aroma as it is very faint, but what is there is mostly sweet malts and bready. Flavor is all about caramel malts and has the slightest hints of dark fruit (plums?). Ends somewhat bitter, but not overly so. Much smoother than expected...this one sort of acted like a scotch ale IMO. Pretty good offering that is very easy to drink. BlackDonald (1127), Boise, Idaho, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 20, 2008 This is a decent little beer for the holidays, kind of a go to, because it is always pretty consistent from year to year. Very malty and full of caramel and toffee malts, a slight bit of candied fruitiness. Really enjyoable. mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 3, 2008 Pours a crystal clear amber color, with orange highlights and a small off white head. Smells of sweet dark caramel malts, dark fruits, and a little yeast. The flavor is mild overall, although the sharp malt characters show up in the finish and lingering aftertaste. Had some fruity notes to go along with it as well. Decent little brew, has some scotch ale similarities. hopscotch (5543), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 23, 2008 Bottle... Clear amber ale with orange highlights and a small, creamy, white head. Vinous, smoky aroma also affords caramel and dark fruits. Medium-bodied with a skim-milk mouthfeel. Sweet, carbony flavor... burnt marshmallow. Sweet, vinous finish. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 17, 2008 12 oz. bottle enjoyed with my brother in law. This was part of a mixed 12 pack of Big Sky beers. Pour is amber, clear, with a light tan head. Aroma of caramel, some biscuity malt. The hops are fairly muted, been lend a bit of spice and earthiness. Taste is a mirror of the nose, caramel malt, a bit roasted and the hops near the end to spice things up a bit. Overall decent, though not terribly interesting. I was a bit surprised to see this listed as an English Strong. whaleman (2171), North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 29, 2008 Thanks to jetzler. Nice rusty body with a silky beige head. Aroma of sweet toffee, caramelized squash, toast and a touch of warm spice. Sweet toasted malt flavor with light bitterness. Body has some palatable texture. Good malt profile but lacks some of the depth of character that it could easily have.

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 20, 2008 Eh, just not that good!!! Sampled at the AZ Strong Beer Festival...but wish I would have used the ticket elsewhere. Thin, mild-mannered, and weak...kind of like the kid you used to pick on when you were younger!!! This beer had toffee, caramel, raisin, and brown sugar notes. Even "after a day on the ice or in the snow", I wouldn’t enjoy a Powder Hound Winter Ale. Maybe the taste dissipates in the sun??? troyc (1175), Lubbock, Texas, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 10, 2008 (Bottle) Pours an amber color with a beige head. Aroma of some dark fruit and chocolate. Taste includes some toffee and roasted grain. Slight hint of alcohol as the beer warms. Sweet molassas and various spices are in here as well. Average to slightly below average palate, with above average carbonation. A decent beer, but could have been a little stronger for those cold winter nights...
