Commercial Description:
Powder Hound is our Winter Ale, and since it is our own creation we call it a Northern Rockies Strong Ale. Powder Hound satisfies, with the fine hand selected British hops fully complimenting the smooth malt notes. After a day on the ice or in the snow, enjoy a Powder Hound Winter Ale. Available November through March.

Bright orangey-brown; malty, demerara-like flavours, some toffee but overall a rather light effort for a winter ale. Other than some fleeting tosaty chocolate notes there is nothing to balance the sweetness, either, which doesn’t help matters.

Bottle... Clear amber ale with orange highlights and a small, creamy, white head. Vinous, smoky aroma also affords caramel and dark fruits. Medium-bodied with a skim-milk mouthfeel. Sweet, carbony flavor... burnt marshmallow. Sweet, vinous finish. Bottle courtesy of mgumby10!

Pours a clear, mostly still, light brown copper with a nice frothy light tan head. Aroma is a fairly subtle blend of sweet caramel malts, English hops and a touch of corn. Starts fairly thick and malty with a pleasant sweetness, nice carbonation, and a pale malty, dry hoppy finish with a touch of adjuncts. I think this brewery needs to change their yeast strain because they seem to make some decent beers, but the yeast in the end is too adjuncty tasting and overpoweringly lager-like. Thanks to IndianaRed for this brew!
