Pours a slightly hazed dark, orange amber with a grande beige head that leaves nice lacing as it settles. Aroma is sweet toasty maltiness with a bit of caramel and some floral and dusty herbal hops - definitely has the Goldings scent. Sweet malts in the flavor, with lots of the ashy, herby hoppiness that I associate with the british hops and some honey in the finish. Light body and assertive carbonation. Quite drinkable and at 4.7 abv this qualifies as a very servicable session ale. Crosling (1854), Loveland, Colorado, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Sep 1, 2005 Shining bronze color with a fully developed white foam. Vibrant aroma of malt (caramel and biscuit) and hops (earth, lemon, flowers), with the hops being the most accented of the two. I generally don’t enjoy English Pales Ales unless it’s a spectacular recipe and this is no different. I dislike how the hops give off such an herbal, sometimes medicinal flavor. The hops here taste like antibiotics to me, totally unpleasant, maybe it’s the Crystal, I don’t know, yet. Not much malt and hop balance to begin with and the hop flavor makes this a drainpour for me. MilkmanDan (1940), Eagan, Minnesota, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 29, 2005 Orange-copper. Decent nose, rather sweet, fair amount of perfumed and citric hops. Surprisingly nice flavor, sugary malty sweetness, a bit of caramel, some good citric hops twist off the end nicely. Definite good transition from malt to hops here, none of that empty vaguely toasty/grainy gap you get in crappier pale ales. Palate is very good, this stuff is quite creamy and full. Easily the best thing I’ve had from Big Sky, and really quite surprisingly enjoyable. mjg74 (1997), La Mesa, California, USA

Aroma is a little sweet with a hint of some citric hop characteristics. Flavor is fairly hoppy and bitter. Some malts in there to give it a little bit of balance. Coppery/bittery flavors. Nice metallic hoppiness and a cran-apple finish. Nice flavorful, yet light beer! Gets even better as you go. Nice tangy hoppiness. DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 15, 2005 (12 oz bottle: Liquid Solutions in Tigard, OR) A very bready pale ale, lightly sweet, caramely, and fruity, with a mildly and citrusy hops that partially balances out the breadiness in the finish. Well, only a little. This is very bready from start to finish, and the hops just waves hello from the distance. Likewise, the nose is very bready, with just a hint of citrus. Medium in body, but actually quite smooth and creamy on the palate. A moderate woodiness comes out in the finish as well. Amber color, fully transluscent. Off-white head is average in size and retention, with just a few traces of lace left on the glass. An excellent session brew, pleasant and easy to drink. BrewDad (2370), Olympia, Washington, USA
