This black ale poured with a thin beige head and a pleasant roasted malt aroma. There is a creamy licorice and oatmeal flavor that is a bit watery. Even though this is advertised as a sweet stout, I found it to actually be more bitter than most. It’s drinkable but not remarkable.

Appearance: Pours a dark brown body with a small, bubbly, beige-colored head. Smell: Roasty coffee and creamy nose with notes of bakers chocolate and licorice. Taste: Dark caramel paired with an earthy chocolate character and a hint of licorice. Mildly sweet. Slight roasty bitterness. The lightly roasty finish leaves you with a watered down chocolate flavor. Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: Pass. Errs on the side of drinkable, but ultimately, it’s a bit thin, and leaves you (or me at least) looking and wanting for more richness, more creaminess.

From a 12oz bottle - Pours a dark clear root beer color with small quickly dissipating head. Below average carbonation. Smells of roasted malts and some oats First sip is smooth with roasted malts leading the way. There is a fairly weak malt backbone. Very nice and drinkable. Excellent bitter finish.

Nice vanilla and oat meal aroma. Dark brown color with a thin tan head, I can just about see through the bottom of the glass. Flavor is a lot of oat meal and roast with a little a sweet. Palate is approachable and not too heavy. Dare I say a session-able oatmeal stout?

Tap @ TFD: Great looking pour is dark brown with a finger of creamy tan head. Decent bits of lacing. Aroma is malty with light roast and a bit of mocha. Tastes is sweeter with cocoa, malt, and again light roast. Just a tiny amount of coffee and oat. Creamy. I’d been waiting awhile to track this down, a bit harder to find than it’s namesake.

Bottle from Nugget Market in Vacaville, CA. Sign said it was the first time this was in California! Black color with a three finger light tan head. Aromas of smooth toasted/burnt malt and a little coffee. Medium body with creamy carbonation. Flavor is smooth burnt malt and a little coffee. Finish is a bit astringent.

Pours jet black with small frothy head that disappears pretty quick. Aroma is of very sweet malt and oats. Taste is very sweet, smooth, and a tad roasty. Very creamy mouthfeel with a nice coffee aftertaste. Better than the average oatmeal stout.
