| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 21, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a dark brown with a creamy tan head that retains well and laces the glass.
The aroma is sweet chocolate and oatmeal with a little smoke and coffee.
The flavor is sweet chocolate and caramel with some nutty grainy malts, molasses and coffee and enough roasted bitterness at the finish to balance it out. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and a little watery.
Overall, a solid and tasty stout. A little much on the sweet side for me. highibus (442), Mill Creek, Washington, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 17, 2008 A typical looking oatmeal stout. Thin tan head with some decent lacing. Sweet aroma of roasted malt and bread. Flavor is smooth and roasty. Nice and smooth finish. Nice version. ditmier (1117), Boise, Idaho, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 12, 2008 Draught @ The Front Door - Pours dk brown with a medium tan head...aroma is light toasted grain, toffee malts...flavour is pretty straight forward roasted grain and not too much malt, and and gets a little thin on the end...good mid range stout, I just prefer mine a bit more "fortified"... hellbilly (1566), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Oct 9, 2008 a thin looking pour is ruby tinted brown and topped by a dusty tan head. aromas of dusty oats, chocolate, malt, some sort of fruit and a light milky sourness. plenty of oaty grit in the flavor... as well as lots of roast, coffee, toasted nuts, lactic sourness and a touch of smoke. it finishes prickly and dry while leaving behind and aftertaste almost burned/char/ashiness. thin body, watery texture and a highly carbonated prickly mouth feel...
the carbonation issues are ’fixed’ when this was hand pulled @ papago but the body was still quite watery.
highly sessionable though... CanIHave4Beers (917), Des Moines, Iowa, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Oct 8, 2008 This had the unenviable task of following up Bourbon County Stout. It fared well though. The beer looks great in the glass, a good deep chocolate brown with a frothy head. Aromas were of oats and sweet malt. This had some really cool things happening with the flavor, of course oatmeal and sweet roasted malt were present, this was sparingly hopped but provided a faint bitterness balancing the flavor out nicely. What was particularly unique about this beer is that I detected a fait but very noticeable smokiness to the flavor, which worked very well in the mix. Palate was somewhat thin, but certainly easy to drink. FlyingSwine (170), Littleton, Colorado, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 5, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a Dark black/brown with a massive frothy tan head. Foam appears to be waterproof, as it won’t stick to the side of my glass. Aroma is light, but typical of Oatmeal Stouts. Flavor is a it watery, chocolate malt and oatmeal, but taste0s good. Palate is all at once: full bodied, watery, creamy and smooth. Overall a very drinkable, albeit kinda plain stout. tedovertu (260), Apple Valley, Minnesota, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 4, 2008 Awesome beer for the price. I am not a Big Sky Brewing company fan but this is a pretty good beer. Aroma of dark coffee and chocolate. Pitch black color. Great balance of flavor and bitterness. A fine example although a little light for stout. Can not beat it for the price if you can find it. incutrav (577), Woodbury, Minnesota, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 3, 2008 Black beer. Some coffee, dark roast in the aroma. Somewhat light body for a stout, but there is a lot of roasty, burnt, coffee goodness in there to make up for it. A light sweetness as well. A very good stout, especially considering the 6 dollar a sixer price.
