Commercial Description:
Also called “Monk’s Café Flemish Sour Red Ale”

We blend young and old beers to make this mildy tart sour ale. Light bodied with a lactic/sour nose and a bit of sweet and sour in the finish. Very refreshing!

Has a nice deep brown color. Aroma is of bitterness alright. I smell some type of vinegar, not sure what type. I smell a tequila type of scent also. Has a little bit of fruit scent hidden behind all of it. Taste is quite sour. This is the first sour I’ve had so I’m not sure how they are supposed to taste but I could get used to this. I tend to like bitter and vinegar type of things so I kind of like this.

Bottle. Dirty red pour with a light tan head. Aroma of musty malt, tart cherry...bit of yeast and spice. Flavors of bready musty malt, light brown sugar, grape skin, dried fruits, bit of tartness. Medium/light body, lightly tart and sweet with a bitter/dry finish. Pretty mellow as far as sours go, but overall refreshing and pretty tasty. It’s nice to have a sour every now and again that doesn’t knock you on your ass with acidity.

11.2 oz. bottle from Grape & Gourmet. Dark brownish-red pour with a very carbonated white head. Aroma of apple cider vinegar that fades into cherries, apple, pear, earth, and oak. Taste is an excellent blend of tartness and sweet. A blend essentially of all of the flavors noted in the aroma. For the price and availability to me this is an excellent bargain. Not the best sour beer by a long shot but worth every penny.

Bottle. Deep ruby pour with a tiny off-white head. Aroma of yeast and cherries. Flavor is mildly sour with a huge dose of fruit sweetness. Tangy, sour and rich. Very good.

Poured brown with a white head. Aroma of sour fruit. Taste started off sour but finished watery. Not bad.
