| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Jan 21, 2009 Deep, rich malt with sour power. Almost like a sweet tart. Carmel, raisins, cherries, chocolate, oak. Then the sourness kicks in and goes through the finish. Musty, but lacking the horsey Brett Flavor. Richer, fruiter and more luscious than many of its kind. juiceisloose (671), Windermere, Florida, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 20, 2009 Monk’s Cafe bottle. Pours a dark crimson red color with a very small and fizzy tan head that dissipates quickly. The aroma is of tart cherries and heavy vinegar. The flavor follows suit with the tart cherries and then finishes with more heavy vinegar. I’m not geting any of the flavors or aromas others are mentioning especially the sweetness. I think I may have gotten a bad bottle or batch. I’ll have to find another to rerate this one. highibus (435), Mill Creek, Washington, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 15, 2009 Pours a beautiful ruby deep red with off white head. Nice lacing. Excellent aroma, nice sour note and bready. Flavor is actual much less sour. Not bad, just not as nice as the aroma. Sweet notes come though and really take away any sourness. Decent finish. jeff789 (410), Pennsylvania, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 11, 2009 As Monks Cafe Sour Ale... Aroma of vinegar and tart apples, with a bit of cherry possibly... Pours a nice ruby with thin tan head that leaves nearly no lacing... Taste is sweet with a bit of vinegar, apple, berry, and peat??(i got a bit of the same sensation as i get with smokey scotch)... Medium bodied, incredibly smooth... I’m surprised this is not rated higher... Ryan82SM (259), Louisville, Kentucky, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jan 10, 2009 Aroma is strong, almost vinegar like, certainly tart. Head and beer both seem highly carbonated, beer is a little cloudy, but nearly transparent when held to light. The taste sticks to your tongue and is very sweet and vinegary. Fairly creamy palate, mildly lively as well. I can see the appeal, but a little overkill on the vinegar, which made the experience less than enjoyable Sparky27 (1596), Phoenix, Arizona, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 29, 2008 Bottle labeled as Monks Cafe Flemish Sour Ale. Pours a clear very carbonated reddish brown with a one finger light tan head. Nose is light vinegar and tart cherries. Taste is sweeter than I expected. Apple juice, light sour cherries and grapes with a metallic finish. Lighter, semi sticky mouth feel. Not great, but not that bad either. Rciesla (3719), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 28, 2008 Bottle. Pours a brown body with a tan head. Light sour acidic cherries, with a light malty apple cider vinegar. Not bad. puggy211 (591), cordova, Tennessee, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 25, 2008 Pours like rootbeer brown with a fine creamy beige head. Dusty, sweet, moldy aroma. Very sweet cherry flavor, at first I tasted lots of yeast but it was quickly overwhelmed. Some vinegar. Slightly sticky finish. Palate is thin and airy. Very drinkable and non-offensive.
