The flavour has a pleasant malty sourness with some sweetness and some dark fruits. Thanks Ogi! StFun (534), Indiana, USA

Pours a deep red, with a pencil thin head. Aroma is all sour and funk, but ina great balance. Flavor didn’t let me down: touches of berry, wood, yeast, citrus, bubblegum, dark fruit (just a touch), and nectar. Finishes nice, if a tad sticky. I liked this one a lot, and would have again, no doubt. nhorween (640), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 16, 2008 11.2 oz bottle. Deep, dark ruby red pour with a soapy head. Citrus and red wine vinegar in the nose, vanilla, oak, sour cherry, mike and ikes. Flavor starts great, and quite similar to the aroma, but finishes a little flat. Seltzer like finish, but very soft on the palate. I enjoyed this, maybe a little sweet to be called balanced, and it’s missing that sometimes dry and dusty finish that I love in these beers. santos999 (318), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Oct 13, 2008 "Monk’s Cafe Flemish Sour Red Ale" Bottle from Capone’s. Deep burgundy body with a nice, rich, sticky off-white head. Very acidic vinegar aroma with cherries, berries, lemon, oak, honey and grapes. The taste is not as intriguing as the smell, but still nice. Soft acidity with powerful sweetness. Very vinous, with cherries, lemon, oak, and sugar. Goes down smooth, easy drinking, and well priced for the style. Unfortunately though, it barely lives of to what a Flemish Red can be. JamesD (198), Centreville, Virginia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 12, 2008 This beer is an okay sour ale. It smells a lot more sour than it tastes though, which I found disappointing. The aroma is very sour and this beer is a deep mahogany. Notes of citrus, some juicy fruits in there. Maybe I’m just pining for Rodenbach, but I want a little more pucker in my sour ales. Moosington (28), Costa Mesa, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 11, 2008 Copper-Red with a lean towards the red. Creme head with pretty nice staying power with nice lacing. Very acidic aroma, but more of an apple cider vinegar aroma coupled with cherry cola. Hits the taste buds pretty hard, akin to vinegar, but this is to be expected. The maltiness does just enough to curtail some of the acid and makes for a decent brew. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 8, 2008 Reddish-brown with an decent off-white head. Nose is balsamic and cherries up front, a little nut and earth in the back. Flavor is more acidic and contains some balsamic, citrus, wood, and earth. Funk comes in the finish. Palate is rather fizzy and stings the tongue, but it’s also a little thin and watery... that said, these qualities help balance the overwhelming balsamic. Enjoyable stuff and quite refreshing, though the balsamic is a little strong for my taste. JK54B (952), Helsinki, Finland
