| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 9, 2008 Bottle, Monk’s Cafe Flemish Sour, brown/garnet pour head fades in a few minutes, minimal lacing. Smells like cranberry concentrate, ripe pear, sorghum, muscadine grapes. Taste is sweet muscadine, sour cherry, band-aids. Doesn’t hold a candle to the Dutchess or Rodenbach, glad I tried it though. robinvboyer (1444), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 8, 2008 12oz bottle label is Monk’s Cafe Flemish Sour Ale. Aroma is sour red wine, and red wine vinegar, very sour, and pungent, but there is a lingering cherry finish. Flavour is tart, but not too tart, a welcoming sourness, with a nice fruity cherry kick. Not too bad, i’m not big on the style, but this isnt half bad. KnN (753), Greenbelt, Maryland, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 7, 2008 Nice sour beer. Pours a clear brown with a hint of red. Aroma is dark fruit and cherries with a nice twang on the nose.
Flavor is nice and sour, but there’s a really interesting undercurrent of something sweet. The two play well together. this one goes down easy and has a nice refreshing taste. That sour twang is great. Brewsmith (136), Torrance, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 6, 2008 From an 11.2 oz bottle purchased locally as Monk’s Cafe Flemish Sour Ale. Aroma is a little like red wine vinegar, but a little sweeter and with more fruit. Appearance is a clear deep burnt reddish orange with a small light tan head. Flavor is fruity and a little sour, very dry. Sour cherries and plums, almost like when you eat fruit a little before it’s ripe. Dry, sparkling and cleans the palate. Has some body, but not heavy. Sour, but balanced. FlssmrBrewAlum (1182), Lisle, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 4, 2008 Served on tap at the Three Floyd’s Brewpub. Pours an interesting hazy reddish (Cherry-ish) brown with decent head in a tulip glass. Aromas are fruity and sweet with touches of malty and sweeter fruit wine. Initial is sour, but mixed well with sweetness. Red wine characteristics, more fruit than dry or wood. Cherry, spice, sour, and light oakiness. Light malt typical of the style. Not dissappointing, just not a great representative. Decent. Would still probably drink again. sleestak (192), Williamston, Michigan, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 2, 2008 On tap as Monk’s Cafe Flemish Sour Red Ale at FFF, served in a tulip. Nice deep brownish-red color with a sturdy cream-colored head. Nose was vinegary - but oak-aged balsamic, not the cheap stuff - dark cherry, and spice. Flavor was tart cherry with spice and oak notes. Nice and bubbly, easy to drink, and makes for a welcome change of pace. Still, this does little more than blend in with the middle of the pack in the increasingly crowded sour ale scene. jde123 (715), Washington, Washington DC, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 2, 2008 Tap, Monk’s Cafe in Philadelphia. Arrived in a small glass, red/cherry appearance with no head. Aroma of tart fruits, with a sour flavor, with a hint of the aforementioned cherries and maybe even some dates...? Interesting, didn’t mind this one in the least!
