Commercial Description:
Also called “Monk’s Café Flemish Sour Red Ale”

We blend young and old beers to make this mildy tart sour ale. Light bodied with a lactic/sour nose and a bit of sweet and sour in the finish. Very refreshing!

4-5-08 bottle shared at tasting thanks to Humulone_Red
Medium rich dark brown pour with a thin ivory head. Smell is thin and subtle tart cherries or grapes. Flavor is sour but too watery. Drinkable but not much character to it.

Bottle. Thanks ChristianScheffel. Pours amber/red with a creamy lasting head & lacings. Aroma is vinous, cherry, oak, caramel. Sour funky fresh & vinous taste. Good mouthfeel & nice brew!

Bottle. [thank you, ChristianScheffel]
[at dedollewaitor’s Odense tasting]
Pours deep brown with a great, staying, beige film head. Aroma is nicely funky, brett, light caramel. Light and fine mouthfeel. Flavour is lovely tart, good caramel, slight fruitiness. Good dryness. Lovely beer.

Red brown with a bubbly, disappearing off-white head. Funky aroma with plenty leather and fruit notes. Very tart flavour with malt and leather notes. Delicious sourness

330ml. Pours dark brown with a lasting off-white head. Mostly sour cherry in the nose. Body is similar, strikingly geuze-like. Fairly sweet body, soft carbonation and a dry acidic finish. Lacking in complexity for as heavy as it seems. Not my favorite sour by far, but I haven’t had many so it could be better than most.

The flemish sour style is not too common in Arizona, I’ve had a few though. This one was pretty good, but I felt like I was left with an extra dry mouth. Drier than Flemish sours normally leave my mouth with. This was the only Flemish red sour that I’ve had, maybe that explains it. I’d recommend this beer to anyone who enjoys Gueze.

Bottle of Monks Cafe Flemish Sour Red Ale. Pours brown red with a thin, light brown head, some retention, some lace. Smells sour and acidic with some red fruity sweetness as well. Taste is a nice mix of sourness up front, and then sweet fruitinesson the finish. A little bit of funkiness in there as well. Medium body, good carbonation

Monk’s Cafe Flemmish Sour Ale 11.2 oz. pours dark red with a big fluffy tan head. aroma is tart with a hint of vinegar. mouthful lives up to the style in a sour up front with some cherry coming through in time. some bitterness in the finnish.
