Commercial Description:
Also called “Monk’s Café Flemish Sour Red Ale”

We blend young and old beers to make this mildy tart sour ale. Light bodied with a lactic/sour nose and a bit of sweet and sour in the finish. Very refreshing!

Sour vinegar aroma. Dark and possibly cloudy amber color with some white foam. Surprisingly moderate beginning with a stronger but balanced sour finish. Thinkish palate.

Deep reddish brown ale. Aroma is dirty, earthy, and wood. Sounds gross but is really pretty interesting. Flavor is big fruit up front that fades into a shard bitter/sour experience and leaves a slightly sweet fruit flavor at the end. The sour here is a little abrasive.

Pours murky brownish/red. Aroma of sour cherries. Taste of oak and slightly sour cherries. Not overly tart and not too acidic. Good introduction to sour beers.

"Monks cafe" 1 yr old bottle, unknown source. Murky, dark brown/red with medium creamy beige head. Aroma is sour cherry, earthy, oak, very strong. Flavor is dirty tart cherry with sour earthiness, intense, with sour grapiness in the finish. Medium tart body that gets a little thin as it sits on the tongue. I’m really digging on this, I wonder if the age adds that much to this beer. I’ll have to try this fresh.

Clear cola color with a fleeting off white head. Good sour oak and caramel nose. Mildly tart taste is oak and barnyard. Not too bad, a fairly mild sour ale here. This beer had a big barnyard piss smell when it warmed up. 837

Bottle courtesy of Humulone_Red. Thank you!
Pours a dark maroon color with an offwhite head. Smell is mild cherry kriek like tartness, but a bit too mild. Taste is like a thin kriek with very light tartness and sweetness. Thin body and carbonation. Just not enough flavor or umpf

Thanks Fonefan. Red-brown with a huge and creamy head, that leaves islands of foam. The aroma is pleasantly sour with notes of berries, malt and hints of oak. The flavour is initially very citric/sour, but soon it’s a more mellow sourness with notes of berries, malt, caramel and a light vinous sweetness. the finish is slightly dry and sour. A pleasant, but not overwhelming sour.
