Commercial Description:
Also called “Monk’s Café Flemish Sour Red Ale”

We blend young and old beers to make this mildy tart sour ale. Light bodied with a lactic/sour nose and a bit of sweet and sour in the finish. Very refreshing!

Labeled as Monks Cafe Flemish Sour Red. Sour cherry nose, cloudy, murky brown, a tiny cream head. Muted sour fruit, light bodied, sweet and tart. Fine. A real treat! Thanks Dave Steen.

Bottle. Small, off-white head that diminishes quickly to fizzy pools. Clear reddish-amber body. The aroma is filled with vinegar with notes of caramel, wood and earth. Flavor is mostly tart/sour and lightly sweet. Moderately acidic. Light to medium body with a watery texture and adequate carbonation.

Poured a amber-brown body with a nice tan head. Tart, sour nose and flavor that was very enjoyable. Great desert beer with complex acidity that tingled al the way down.

Pretty sour, but also has that sweetness going on. Not as sweet as most Flemish Sours. Decent. A swampy brown color - pretty odd looking, really.

Smells like sour apples. The taste has the expected sourness but has a metallic aftertaste but is very acidic. Nothing overly exciting, does bad things to the stomach.

On tap at Monk’s Cafe in Philadelphia. While not the best red I’ve ever had, I love this sour ale. It goes great with Monk’s very nice Belgian style food.

Pretty piss poor flemish red. Appearance was nothing to rave about. Very bland and nothing really jumping out flavor wise - mild tartness and thin/watery body.

Very sour and not hugely nuanced, this has the typical "wild" smells of the breed which take getting use to. Sweet and tart, along with harsh bitter notes (cherry pit). Sudsy, lively carbonation. Fairly refreshing despite all the crazy flavours going on.
