Commercial Description:
Also called “Monk’s Café Flemish Sour Red Ale”

We blend young and old beers to make this mildy tart sour ale. Light bodied with a lactic/sour nose and a bit of sweet and sour in the finish. Very refreshing!

On tap at Monks. Clear copper in color with a reddish medium head. Cherry sour fruity aroma. Tart cherry note. Very nice sweet and malty flavor. Tart. Very nice tasting. Medium bodied. Finish is sweet. Great beer. Very enjoyable.

Clear copper with a medium head. Good lacing. Aroma of balsamic vinegar and cherry. Flavor is heavy tart, lightly sweet. Medium body. Astringent finish. In a good way.

A new style for me. Nice amber body with a tan soapy head and moderate carbonation. Aroma is sweet and malty with some spice. It is a delicious aroma. First taste has a nice sour / acidic grab to it. Not like anything I have previously tasted. The middle of the tongue is stimulated but not greatly. Flavor settles into a very nice floral and fruity beer that is a delight to drink.

Bottle, Monk’s Flemish Sour Ale. This name led me to this list of reviews. I really like Flemish sour ales, but this one was a disappointment. It has a good tart sour flavor, but tastes as though it is watered down. The aroma is good, but I can’t get by the watery taste and finish. I am much too spoiled with Rodenbach to settle for this!!!!!!!

EBF 2007: Hazy amber color with an off white head. Aroma, yeasty and some sourness, lightly fruity. Flavor, sour with some dry fruits. Pretty good, but I’ve had better.

Not a fan of really tart, fruity, and sour flavors but, this was drinkable. Finishes tart, chewy, and stickey.

Bottle: Dark cider look. Clear with a small and quickly dissipating head. The aroma is mellow and sour along with some wood splinters. There really isn’t that much flavor compared to the Dutchess. The aftertaste is a bit "tinny" and dissolves immediately. I was disappointed.

bottle pours out a hazy brown topped with a nice off white head. A very nice aroma of sour fruit as it should. But the tast was very thin. More sour than anything. Thanks Pinkzambia for this one.
