Not a great head, but what is there lasts, providing good webby lacing. Tart cherry and citrus aroma. Tart but not funky.
Flavors of sour sour sour cherry. I grow sour cherries. This is more sour. Yes, I like it. Throw in some dry sherry wine, and some sweet cherry, and some oak. Complex and flavorful.
Medium body and moderately carbonated. Fizzy aftertaste of tangy lemon and cherry pit. Sven (229), Lancaster, California, USA

Mahogany in colour with a slowly disappating tan head. Cherry and raison tartness followed by a mildly sweet moderate sourness that is surprising refreshinging and quaffable. Could drink this all night. machfive55 (230), Columbia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Jul 16, 2008 The beer poured a very deep brown/red color with a nice head that did not last all that long. There was a lively carbonation. The aroma was complex with chocolate and raisin notes. The flavor was a nice mild sourness that is refreshing with hints of citrus and cherries. This is a nice beer that is refreshing as the label notes and is very easy drinking. I think the complexity of the beer makes it more like a cocktail than a beer, there is just a lot going on with this beer. nuplastikk (1191), Madison, Wisconsin, USA

Thick, malty, and full of natural fruity flavors. From sugary sweet to tart and sour, this one really encapsulates everything good about cherry ales. A little oak in there somewhere perhaps. If sour ales are your thing, you’d be doing yourself a disservice not to try this beer. Outstanding. kindacold (5), Newport News, Virginia, USA does not count | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Aug 2, 2007 I had the alias of this beer called Monk’s Cafe Flemish Sour Ale. Reddish color with decent head. Incredible smell, very sweet with a slight preview of the shocking sourness to come. First sip is a SHOCK. Think sweet tarts and vinegar, but in a good way (I know, hard to picture that being good...but it really is). Sweet, sour, and refreshing. Bought more, can’t wait to drink them. booyaatribe (453), Chicago, Illinois, USA

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jul 4, 2009 11.2 oz. bottle labeled Monk’s Cafe Flemish Sour Ale. Pours a mostly clear deep reddish brown (more red than brown) with a moderate off-white head that lasted through two-thirds of the glass and left partial lace. Very pleasant aroma of sour cherry, malt and some oak. The flavor is just excellent with lots of rich malt which has some sweetness to it, some mildly sour cherries, caramel and oak. Delicious. The balance between sweet and sour is perfect. Lively on the palate from the carbonation while at the same time texturally smooth and flowing with a medium body. I’ll be picking up more of these for sure to keep on hand. Thoroughly enjoyable. doublebock (196), USA
