posikyle (163), Alabama, USA Jun 12, 2008 Smells like vinegar, tastes like sweaty socks. One to avoid. Nice color, though.
ross (1531), charlotte, North Carolina, USA Sep 4, 2008 Bottle labeled as the Monk’s Cafe one. Pours out a nice red color with a brownish colored head. Smell is full of oak and some sour cherry flavors. A little bit of yeasty funk notes here too with some nuts? Not bad smelling. Taste is rich and pretty full bodied for a sour beer. Malty yet sour at the same time with a nice cherry flavor and finish. Good stuff, easy to drink, perhaps almost dangerous to drink. 12 of these could disappear in a matter of a few hours. Not bad stuff. noncaloric (48), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Sep 4, 2008 On tap, tulip. Aromas of sour apple and vinegar. Dark, clear brown body, hints of red, but more garnet than ruby. Small beige head, leaves large spots of lacing. Initial flavors are tart apple and fresh raspberry. Mouthfeel crisp and chalky, but in a good way, like granny smith apples. Fruity elements fade in the finish, vinegar comes forth. As the beer warms, a bitter element emerges, but blends harmoniously with the tart and sweet elements. Last third of the glass is very much like ruby grapefruit. aubreya (670), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Aug 31, 2008 The color was medium amber. The head was thin, creamy, and white. The aroma was sweet, fruity, vanilla, spicy, and musty. The flavor was musty, tart, vermouth, and spicy. The palate was medium-bodied. The finish was tart and spicy. SHANER4 (208), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Aug 31, 2008 Poured a ruby red color with small head. Smelled like red grapes and booze. Syrupy taste like a red wine and sour apples. I really did not like at first but got better as I drank. This is not a normal tasting beer so be prepared before drinking. If you like wine you should enjoy this. emacgee (1055), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Aug 31, 2008 Pours a dark brown with ruby highlights. The head was 1-2 fingers thick, creamy, and light tan. The nose was a tad sweet, very balsamic, woody, vinegary, not very pleasing. The flavor was slightly tart, some cherry pit, very balsamic, woody. Tart and crisp, sweet finish.
