11.2 oz. bottle into sniffer. Pours dark red with a nice white (slightly grayish) head. Aroma includes hints of vinegar, port, salt… weird (but this is also my first sour, so…). Flavor is strange, tangy, vinegar, salt, with a malt and a bit fruity aftertaste – no hops. Medium bodied on the palate and smooth carbonation, pretty thin mouth feel though.

Oct 6, 2008 A bottle tasted at Vastarannan Kiiski with Mirjukka. White head. Reddish copper colour. Some "coke"-sharpness in the nose. Mild sourness in the taste. Also slight sweetness and maltiness.

Oct 5, 2008 "Monk’s Cafe Flemish Sour Red Ale" is the beer label that I saw, anyway... aroma of sweet chocolate and tart cherries; murky brown body with light tan head that forms huge and soapy, then diminishes into rockiness, but ends only in some typical ring that looks soapy--chaotic lacing remains after the glass is emptied; tastes damn tangy, but good, malty; great beer, but nothing awesome.

Sep 24, 2008 On draft at Naja’s Place labeled as Monk’s Cafe. Deep ruby red in color with an off white head that went away very quick. Very nice aroma of sour cherries and quite
carbonated. Flavor is very nice, tart, tangy,sour goodness. Some Balsamic in the background with a long tart woody finish.
I really enjoy this one every time I’m at Naja’s. Very nice on one of those hot So Cal summer afternoons at King Harbor.

Very deep red, wispy head. Beautiful sour ale aroma, slightly cheesy - is that my feet?, sweet and dark. Quite lively carbonation. Sweet and tingly palate from the sourness. Almost sherbety film coats the mouth. You can lick ’sour’ off your gums for quite a while! Soft sweet malts and fruits. Some butter and phenols too, but only a hint of those. Quite delicious - more bite than many sour ales, and that’s what I’m looking for!
