Commercial Description:
Birra Moretti La Rossa is a double bock beer produced using high quality 100% malted barley, giving it a rich sweet taste and an intense fragrance of roasted malt. The amber colour that characterizes the beer, comes from kind of malt used in the recipe (malt is dried, roasted barley). Another key ingredients is hops, the variety used is particularly aromatic, giving a characteristic bitter aftertaste and a delicate fragrance to the beer. The Master Brewers advise a service temperature between 10° and 12° C.

Color red-brown fire, with good abundant head. The aroma is of toasted malt, the body is full, and the good dry end, long and slightly spice.

Fairly typical Euro doppelbock. Impressive head, nice medium amber body. Carmel/coffee aroma with a malty, nutty taste that finishes clean. Full bodied, but not overly heavy, recommended.

12oz bottle. Pours a dark brownish amber with a very thick, long lasting light tan head. The aroma is caramel, malts, and som light alcohol. Taste is sweet caramel malts, with some spicy hops. Aftertaste is slightly bitter and spicy. Thin body with soft carbonation.

Not a bad effort here. Very much in softly carbonated and cola flavoured vein but it works well. Flavours are a bit simple and sweet but reasonably faithful to the genre. Some stinky vegemite on the nose adds some character and there’s a minerally tang on the back palate that stops the flavours getting fat from the sweet malts.

Had this during my trip to Italy. Didn’t know that they came in three packs. Darker color than the regular beer. Much more maltier and darker. Not really bitter--maybe a bit, but pretty mellow. For the supermarket in Rome, not too bad. Went back for more.

Had this at Ippolito’s in Sandy Springs. Aroma is strong and malty, not complex but still promising. It pours a nice dark brownish amber with a very thick, fine-bubbled, long-lasting light tan head. Flavor is typically malty, but mouth-filling with hints of hops and caramel. Texture is quite tingly and lively.

Bottle. Pours clear dark amber with a disappearing off-white head. Aroma is mainly of malt with a little bit of caramel and dark fruit plus there is a faint metallic odour in there as well. Flavour is quite sweet with malt, toffee, hazelnuts and a hint of milk chocolate coming through. Light body, fairly thin with a short, bitter/sweet finish, this isn’t my favourite doppelbock but it’s not terrible either.

Lots better than the original I can tell you that!! I get caramel and some very light chocolate. Maybe a hint of nuts. Flavor is malty with a hint of bitterness. Ok.
