The appearance is clearly the best part of the beer with a beautiful rootbeer brown color, crystal clear with a fantatic creamy light tan head with staying power thru the entire drink. Aroma is metallic, but suprisingly gives room for the molasses, brown sugar and rum to come walking thru. Nothing complex of mind-blowing but solid nonetheless. Mouthfeel is smooth, with a lingering tingling. Flavors are sweet malts with a strong leaning towards brown sugar. Some subtle dark fruits, and yeast also show up in the flavor. A tasty beer, let alone a tasty dopplebock from Italy. gam (1103), brisbane, Australia

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 17, 2008 Bottle. Pours clear reddish brown, extremely thin head. Aroma has lots of toffee, a hint of berries and bready yeast. Flavor is very nice - deep, rich rye-like dough flavors, also raisin, pears and plum flavors. A touch of alcohol and light bitterness on the edges. Rich, textured mouthfeel. pumpkinheart (63), Aurora, Illinois, USA

Pleasant malty aroma with a nice colored light tan head that dissipates fairly quickly. The light passes nicely through the brownish red coloring. The beer has a smooth malty flavor that doesn’t cling unpleasantly in the mouth, with a nice, light hoppiness on the back end that is just a bit astringent. Overall, a beer that drinks nicely on a Monday night while watching the kids. toddbates (95), USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jan 10, 2008 a passable italian beer (about time). this beer allowed me to idle away my time in my favorite italian hole in the wall and drink a passable beer (a nice break after having months and months of beautiful wines but horrible beers) it pours a clear ruddy amber with a khaki head that dissipated quickly. I had it both on tap and in bottles and was satisfied with the caramel/maltiness of the initial taste with a nice sweetness and slight fruit Heathen (795), Riverside, New Jersey, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 5, 2008 THOUGHTS: Finally a beer from Italy that I think is good. Not great, mind you, but good. Like a more complex Sam Adams Winter Lager or a watered down Samichlaus.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, dark reddish amber with an off white head that mostly diminished. The aroma was grain, sweet malt and also caramel, apple, raisin, and port wine or bourbon. A little alcohol as well. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and acidic, while the finish was moderately to heavily sweet and acidic and sour. The flavor was mostly caramel malt and raisins with a slight bit of chocolate. The medium body was syrupy with lightly fizzy carbonation and a moderate to heavy astringent finish.
