Commercial Description:
Birra Moretti La Rossa is a double bock beer produced using high quality 100% malted barley, giving it a rich sweet taste and an intense fragrance of roasted malt. The amber colour that characterizes the beer, comes from kind of malt used in the recipe (malt is dried, roasted barley). Another key ingredients is hops, the variety used is particularly aromatic, giving a characteristic bitter aftertaste and a delicate fragrance to the beer. The Master Brewers advise a service temperature between 10° and 12° C.

Bottle 0.33L. Brown body with a large, creamy, light-brown head; mostly lasting with a good lacing. Moderate-to-heavy malty aroma (bread, caramel) with a light-to-moderate hoppy character; notes of plum and maybe toffee; light hints of alcohol and spices. Moderate-to-heavy sweet flavour with a bit lighter bitter note. Light-to-medium body with a watery texture, soft carbonation; light alcoholic feeling in the finish. Not a wonderful beer (the experts say that it was better before Heineken bought the brewery...) but quite satisfactory and easy to find (at least in Italy).

Pours dark, dark, dark...like urine from a marathon runner with Rhabdomyolysis, or some poor bastard passing a large kidney stone. Has a nose of burnt malt with notes of roof rat urine. The burnt malt taste made me entertain thoughts of projectile vomiting. I love Italy, love Italians (especially their women), love their culture, but I hate this beer. After two swallows, relegated the remainder to the sewers of Monterey County.

Pours copper with little head. Aroma is nutty caramel. Flavor is pretty good malty, nutty and caramel. THen BAM!!! Nothing. No finish or aftertaste. It was just gone. One of the most unbalanced beers I have tried. An even 2.5 rating for half a beer.

Malts are prominent and sweet, with a bit of vanilla and caramel. Alcohol is subdued. Hops are there, but only in the background. Not bad, but nothing stands out about it. Decent choice at an Italian restaurant if you dont want a pale lager.
