Commercial Description:
Birra Moretti La Rossa is a double bock beer produced using high quality 100% malted barley, giving it a rich sweet taste and an intense fragrance of roasted malt. The amber colour that characterizes the beer, comes from kind of malt used in the recipe (malt is dried, roasted barley). Another key ingredients is hops, the variety used is particularly aromatic, giving a characteristic bitter aftertaste and a delicate fragrance to the beer. The Master Brewers advise a service temperature between 10° and 12° C.

Deep red in color. Aroma is malty sweet with some toffee. Flavor is malty sweet and rather one dimensional. Got a little cloying by the end of the bottle, but otherwise nice

Bottle poured out a reddish brown with a thin off-white had. Smell was sweet malt, basic. Bittersweet flavor, a little weak but pleasant enough. Some slight rich spiciness buried in there. Smooth with a medium body.

12 oz bottle via Cost Plus World Market. Pours a clear dark amber. Large beige head that leaves lots of lace as it slowly receds. Notes of vanilla, toffee, earthy hops. Taste starts with some sweet caramel, then some vanilla, toasted grains and nuts, some fruity esters-berries and pears, and finishes with some pretty strong hops. Moderate carbonation. medium body. Pretty good.

Pours a nice and clear ruby brown, about a half inch of light tan foam. Head recedes to a thin ring quickly, no lacing. Strong malty honey aroma very nice. Taste - thick mouthfeel, deep dark caramel maltiness, some fruit that is between plum and fig. Full bodied and very flavorful - softly carbonated A bit of spicy hops in the aftertaste - accompanied by a LOT of that dark plum malt. Very tasty.

Had this one at an Italian resteraunt. The head was nice and thick, and off-white. The aroma had malt and alcohol in it. The taste was fairly round and full for such a transparent beer; there was some sort of sour fruit in there. It finished with just a wee hint of hopps. The Italians are better at beer than we give them credit for.

Bottle (330ml). via trade with Biegaman. Bright clear burnished copper with a decent off-white head. Roast malt aroma, vinous and mildly alcoholic. Taste is more tart fruit than anything else - roast malt backing, of course. Nearly viscous mouthfeel, a little sour, medium finish - oddly enough, I really like this one.

Reddish brown color. Slight roasted malt aroma. Taste mostly sweetness, with a touch of roasted malt. No hops.

I had this from a bottle at a fancy Italian restaurant. The beer pours a very bright red, almost unnaturally so (like a framboise). It was poured in a footed pilsner glass, and even poured into the narrow bottom of the glass by the bartender, I didn’t get much head on it. The smell is definitely bock...very little hop, a ton of (mostly caramel smelling) malt. Taste is OK....a bit too sweet for my taste, but I felt it was consistent with the style. A very sweet malty taste...think something like Hawaiian sweetbread or malted milkballs. Mouthfeel was thin and watery and very mainstream lager-feeling. Drinkability-wise, I didn’t really want another. If you’re into dopple bocks/dunkels, give it a shot. Worth a try, but I won’t be running out to purchase a six-pack of it anytime soon.
