Commercial Description:
Birra Moretti La Rossa is a double bock beer produced using high quality 100% malted barley, giving it a rich sweet taste and an intense fragrance of roasted malt. The amber colour that characterizes the beer, comes from kind of malt used in the recipe (malt is dried, roasted barley). Another key ingredients is hops, the variety used is particularly aromatic, giving a characteristic bitter aftertaste and a delicate fragrance to the beer. The Master Brewers advise a service temperature between 10° and 12° C.

Bottled. Amber colour, mediumsized off-white head. Aroma of malts, some alcohol and roast. Flavour is alcohol, malts, a bit caramel and then a nice smooth hoppy finish. A bit salty, otherwise very pleasant.

7/26/06: Bottle.
Red-brown body. Heavy, thick head with lots of lace. Burnt malt nose. Flavor is malty with a touch of burnt, roasted coffee; molasses also noted. Slightly bitter, hop finish.

Bottled (BB 02/2007). Rating #2600. Dark amber color, creamy tan head. Toasted sugar, malt aroma. Medium-bodied. Toasted malts and sugar also in the flavor. Hides ABV quite well. I am not very excited about this (doppel)bock.

I think that this is more of a dopplebock. For a industrial beer, it’s not bad. It has a pretty color but seems a bit thin. The nose is as sweet as the taste.

Bottled. Pours a dark reddish amber with a lacy tan head. Aroma of toffee, molasses, light spice. The body is medium, smooth, with a somewhat fizzy carbonation. The taste starts sweet with molasses, nuts, fruit and chocolate and a spicy, slightly bitter finish.

Definitely the best Italian beer I have had which is completely meaningless. Very malty and nutty like you would expect from a bock, somewhat one-dimensional and flat though in its finish. Something was missing. I was kind of left hanging on this one.....did get better as it warmed, I am shocked at the ABV.

Poured from a bottle to an amber-brown, with thin tan head and okay lacing,. Aroma was sweet malty chocolate with some caramel. As glass warmed, hints of alcohol entered the smell. Flavor was more of the malty wweetness, and finish was smooth, although not all that long, and again, alcohol was more pronounced at beer’s end.
