Deep russet brown with very fine carbonation managing to raise only a short, soapy off-white head, that left a little legs. Not overly inviting nose; dry, musty and gritty, cereal grains with a light yeasty marmite note. Unusual mix of grainy malt beverage and Tawny port in the mouth, quite full-on in flavour and definitely not the light quaffer I was expecting. Rich, sweet, toffee and caramel, toasted grain and bready, nutty notes; vinous Merlot grapes and fresh picked plums and dates. Dries out in the back and the finish is shorter than the palate would suggest with only a light, lingering alcohol and wine-like feel. Sprightly carbonation on the tongue, light bodied, yet reasonably smooth, it went down easily but I don’t think a six pack of them would go down the same. Quite surprised by this one. Unusual interpretation of a Bock, but it worked and made for a pleasant end to my day. Quite nice. frylock (1027), Buffalo, New York, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 26, 2005 Mahogany color with thick off-white head. Aroma is of bready malts with notes of plum and fig. Malty, light roast and a hint of caramel. Not too sweet, some light notes of plum. Better than expected. FlacoAlto (2482), Tucson, Arizona, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 23, 2005 Updated: Aug 28, 2005Pours a brilliantly clear, ruby red color when held up to the light. It is topped by a tan head that is quite thick as well as being frothy and creamy. The aroma smells of lightly spicy hops, caramelized malt and a hint of toasted grain. The taste is lightly sweet up front, but then moves to a toasty, caramel malt note. The finish is dry with a lingering toasted maltiness that is lightly astringent. Overall this beer is a celebration of malty notes. This is a fairly full flavored beer, and at one time was by far the most flavorful Italian beer, with a new wave of craft Italian breweries though this seems like a not quite flavorful enough bock.

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jun 27, 2005 This may in fact be my first straight bock to have rated. A fine-looking brew, the head is full of the same chocalaty-caramelness the beer has. Really a great beer. In fact, probably the first Italian beer I’ve had that I’ve rated highly at all.
