| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 21, 2004 Very lucky to get to sample this malty brew at a don giovanni party very recently... funny though, italian beer for a spanish opera?!? Anyway, there is a soft balance in the malts that allows the caramels to take over. Sort of like sqeezing a stone for water... but in only the best beer-like way. hellomynameis (794), Mayer, Minnesota, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 13, 2004 This was good, a pleasent surprise even. A little lighter than your average dopplebock. It is of course nice and malty, there is a bit of a bitter finish. It’s pretty smooth, a bit on the light side, with a good amount of carbonation. Worth a second try when better dopplebocks aen’t available. lachesis (759), St Idesbald, Belgium
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 13, 2004 Intens red-amber color with a fluffy beige head. It has a light fruity aroma with touches of bread and some spices, also a little sourish touch in the nose. This beer has a very smooth mouthfeel with a fresh and lively caracter. It has an outspoken malty attack with a fine spicyness and dry afthertaste.
Thanks Gigi for bringing me this bottle. Shag (1923), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Nov 8, 2004 This one poured a dark reddish color with very little head. The aroma was cherries, caramel, and raisins. The flavor was quite sweet with the cherries and alcohol standing out more than anything else. It had a very creamy texture to it. I could see this matching up nicely with some italian food. Viva La Rossa! BierBauch (651), Cape Coral Waterfront Wonderland, Florida, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Nov 3, 2004 Clear reddish brown Head is initially full yet dies quickly. Malty aroma, slight metallic. Caramel in aroma and flavor. German like in taste as most lagers. Overall pretty average and macro-tasting. ClarkVV (3578), Allston, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 26, 2004 2004 bottle or 2003 i never know with these imports. Pours a rich ruby and caramel brown/red with a good off-white head. Smells like vinegar, sour yeast, cinnamon and brown sugar/molasses. Flavor is sweet with hints of banana, chocolate and an ever so slight amount of bitterness, more like dry balsa wood. Is this stuff aged in wood (I know the answer to that). Oh well, it’s good, as said before it’s somewhat lacking but has a good flavor. jgentgesdo (564), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 20, 2004 Bottle. Pours reddish with a thin, tan head. Nose is olives and some kind of spice, stewed hops. Sweetish caramel flavors with a little bitter apple and a smoky, bitter aftertaste that also reminds me of olives. Worth drinking, especially with a big plate of pesto spaghetti.
