The head is tawny colored, full and soapy with low retention and a sticky lace. Smells of malt and caramel and light hop notes. Tastes sweet and malty with fruity notes and a light but lingering hop bitterness. Palate is light bodied and effervescent with a light dry finish. Not a remarkable beer -- not a lot of character. Somewhere in the middle. FtWorthBrew (105), Fort Worth, Texas, USA

Had suprising spikes of wheat flavor that made me wonder what the garlicy food might be covering up. I am very supised to learn now that it has a 7.2% alcohol contnet. I didn’t notice it at all. If I can find it again I’ll definantly give it a second shot. Ungstrup (15430), Frederiksberg, Denmark

Mention the similarities between an Italian beer and a German beer and people will look at you like you done lost your mind. Well, I must’ve done lost mine ’cause this stuff tastes like it was brewed in Bavaria. And, given the geographic closeness of the areas in which this was brewed and the aforementioned German locale, it should come as no surprise. Good stuff. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 3, 2004 A real surprise! The only other Italian beer I’ve tried before this was the forgettable, regrettable Peroni, so I was skeptical. But the brand was on sale, and my aim is to try every beer once, so into the breach once more.
Color is dark red/purple, aroma is thick, luscious, spicy, heady. Smooth, but with a bite. Great malt component. Very lively and delicious! I don’t know Italian, so I’ll guess at the label. La Rossa Birra=The Red Beer. Doppiomalto=doppelbock? Tastes like one, but by any name, this rossa is a sweet delight.
